The Unplugged album was the best.... I also read that at the time, it was the only Unplugged album they (MTV) had ever produced that did not require a song to be performed twice.... straight through, no fuckups, just raw

MTV has nothing to do with the fact that Nirvana was an awesome band - KC was an awesome guitar player, song writer, and personality....
Personality yes. guitar player no. He was a thouroughly average guitar player. Song writer.. maybe. none of thier music was that complex or technically impressive but it was catchy and people liked it. It was a little bit different than all of the other stuff out there. I think his personality was one of the reasons that they were so popular.

nope, not feeling it.

The last sustained note at the end of the song should give anyone with a soul goosebumps. If you claim to like punk rock or hard rock music, and you don't appreciate Cobain, it's your loss. If you DON'T like punk or hard rock and you don't like Cobain, that's perfectly understandable.
I like hard rock but I don't think nirvana or cobain walks on water.

But, no one cares what music you don't like, and it's probable that you aren't going to like an artist that works in a genre that you don't like, no matter how superior his talent. And make no mistake, his performing and songwriting talent was superior.

"I miss the comfort in being sad." Sorry, that's a genius song lyric. That's not just my opinion, either. It's been scientifically proven that that line kicks 98.7% ass.
that's funny

I'm pretty sure that Cobain hated himself more than you ever could! As they say, actions speak louder than words!
I think he proved that.

Morrissey and Brittany records, old man!

Listen here Groucho Marx you honestly don't know what you are talking about. Cobain rocked the world with his lyrics and songs regardless if you think he is only average. Music is about making the right set of notes come together and making it work. He did exactly this therefore he was very successful. Just because he doesn't use every note up the guitar fret like Santana, Hendrix, or Clapton, doesn't mean he doesn't know how to play the guitar. His lyrics spoke for a generation and have great meaning and strength to them. To be hating on him saying they were average is insanity at its finest..... go back to your paula abdul records and brittany spears. This probably where your critique's may hold some weight.

He was average. But my question is why does your homo erotic lovefest for him hold more weight than people who say he was just OK?

if he was average, he wouldn't have been as much of an influence as he was. Like i said, i've never seen Nirvana, i only owned a couple of their cds, but i can recognize the effect that band had on music.

ahh, so cobain must be fantastic because look at the influence nirvana on music?

Nirvana is not even my favorite band. They are probably in my top 5 maybe. They changed the direction of rock and their influence will forever be a footnote in the history of rock and roll. One stroll through the EMP (experience Music Project) in Seattle can tell you this. Just because you are not of the generation or fail to see the impact doesn't negate his tremendous influence he had. Personally I hate the Rolling Stones but I can respect the influence they had on rock and roll and would agree they helped define history.

From wikpedia. The bolded and underlined part is from me.

Grunge became commercially successful in the first half of the 1990s, due mainly to the release of Nirvana's Nevermind and Pearl Jam's Ten. The success of these bands boosted the popularity of alternative rock and made grunge the most popular form of hard rock music at the time.[1] The genre became closely associated with Generation X in the US, since the awareness of each rose simultaneously. However, many grunge bands were uncomfortable with this popularity. Although most grunge bands had disbanded or faded from view by the late 1990s, their influence continues to impact modern rock music.

There's a difference between personal taste and trying to speak about a bands influence and ability.

His guitar ability was average. Thomez said that KC was an awesome guitar player and he wasn't. He was probably worse than average. I know half a dozen people that can play guitar better than Cobain. his music wasn't about blazing guitar solos and clapton like command of the instrument. So I don't understand why anyone would specifically say that he was great in part because of his guitar ability when he clearly didn't have much. He was a good songwriter sure. He had an innovative style. It was new and different. That is why he was so popular. not because he was a good singer or guitar player.

His lyrics spoke for a generation? which generation? YOu give him too much credit.
What the fuck do these lyrics say?
With the lights out its less dangerous
Here we are now
Entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now
Entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My libido
Yea
it's nonsense.

Sorry, I agree with lou. And as we're on totally opposite ends of pretty much every spectrum, when we agree you know we have to be right.

Are you serious? I'd be surprised if they even made my top 100. They were very middle-of-the-road and unremarkable in every way.
