| Free Congo! No I'm not talking about the Republic of Congo or human rights, I'm talking about Congo the dog! He's making headlines across NJ. Here is a picture of Congo viciously mauling children. I had to link it for its graphic nature. Congo attacks! Here's the story: Landscapers came on to the property early to do work and came on the property after specifically being asked to wait. The family dogs then started barking as the landscapers came on the property without permission. A landscaper who was afraid of the dogs started hitting them with a metal rake. The mother, Elizabeth James, came out to yell at the landscaper to make him stop hitting the dogs. A landscaper then grabbed Elizabeth from behind and threw her to the ground. At this point Congo bit that landscaper. Note, he did not attack as he was being hit with a metal rake, only after a landscaper attacked its owner. A judged deemed Congo vicious and sentenced him to death! Congo is currently being detained in an animal shelter. Shelter employees have reported that the "vicious" Congo has been depressed and won't eat unless he's hand fed. There are protests going on in Princeton today to fight the decision and try to save Congo's life. Friends of Congo have been speaking out discussing how gentile he has always been with them and their children. There's a poll at nj1015.com as well as contact information for the Judge who is sentencing Congo to death for protecting his family. New Jersey 101.5 FM Radio The other side of the story is that the landscapers were asked to wait while they put the dogs in the house, but after waiting a while decided to go do work anyway. They used the rakes to protect themselves from the barking dogs. The landscaper was then cowering behind Elizabeth and holding her to protect him from the dogs which ended up causing her to fall down. When she fell, Congo attacked. The landscaper was awarded $250k in damages.

| This is Bullshit! They came on Private Property after being told not to do so! The dog behaved as it should, even showing restraint when it was attacked! This has no comparison to cases we have had in my area of dogs, most often Pit Bulls, who jump fences and attack people, children, and other dogs on the public streets. This Judge is an asshole! And 250k? ![]() What were the injuries? And I just voted NO!

| Yea I don't know what to believe, but the public outcry is to save Congo. The little told landscaper side of the story is that he could have been killed by Congo had the husband not been home. He was banged up pretty bad. The problem in this case is that it wasn't just one bite. It was a series of bites the landscaper got. To make matters worse though he was using the rake on Congo's puppies! Congo didn't attack to that, only when the owner was pulled down by a scared landscaper. The argument is that the dogs were doing what you would want a dog to do... bark if someone is on their property. The landscapers were told to wait until the dogs were inside, he didn't and they started barking at him, so they used a rake to try to hold/scare them back which only pissed them off more. Finally when he knocked over the owner he landscaper got bit. If I had a dog, I'd want them to do the same damn thing. Bark at anyone on the property and attack if my wife was pulled to the ground by someone the dogs didn't know. The fact that he didn't attack when the rake was being used on his pups shows a lot of restraint. Last edited by JaJae; 11-09-2007 at 08:51 PM.. | ||||

| The landscaper ADMITS to being told to wait and then not waiting? He should have been jailed for animal cruelty for hitting the dog with a rake. | ||||

| As a Criminal Trial Attorney I find it totally reprehensible that a person can shoot someone for protection however when our faithful dog tries to protect it's owner and it's pups,at it's home,it can be condemned? I have been blessed all my life to have shared it with my canine family.. I am a woman who lives alone in the woods on 29 acres and have not spent one moment in fear or worry about my safety because I have my dogs here..so much more reliable then a gun or a husband. What sort of place are you governing where a dog could be put to sleep for doing what it needs to do for it's family? The actions of animals is always understandable..the cruelty, stupidity and thoughtlessness of humans is always astounding. Please do what is right and save this dog. | ||||

| Someone should take the dog and hide it if they don't reverse the decision. IF nothing else the owners should have to pay medical bills and leave it at that. There is no reason to put a dog to death for this. | ||||

And the DA saying "it's their fault, they could have accepted a deal" is bullshit. Told not to enter, entered, pushed down the owner. The dog did what it's supposed to do! The guy should be paying the dog's owners, not the other way around. | ||||

| Troopers Serving Warrant Next Door Shoot, Kill Fenced-In Dog - Local News Story - WCAU | Philadelphia State troopers were in the neighborhood, trying to serve a warrant on someone. They sent a couple of extra troopers around to guard the back door. Those officers, however, cut through a neighbor's yard, and that's when they came across Sheeba, a very protective family dog, NBC 10's Tim Furlong reported. "She was doing her job. That's what she does, she protects us," said DiQuan Dill said. Their mom was there when it happened. "I was in there laying down and, all of a sudden, I heard gunfire -- about five or six rounds," Denise Dill said. "When I came to the door, they were actually next door, and I said, 'What's the matter? Who shot my dog?' And he was like, 'Your dog bit me.' I said, 'What are you doing in the yard?' And he said, 'We're looking for this guy over here.' I said, 'Why did you have to shoot the dog?' He said, 'She bit me.' I said, 'Why you didn't just get out of the yard?'" State police said they do apologize and will compensate the family for their loss, Furlong reported. So state police came on property and shot a dog and they're going to compensate the family, but a landscaper came on after specifically being told not to, then pushed the owner down, and the landscaper got compensated??? | ||||

He was the one in the wrong.
