Alcohol can be seen in the exact same way. A couple other facts go along with it...if society deems it legal, they not only give their stamp of approval to take the stuff, they are also giving their stamp of approval on things that literally fuck you up. This isn't something to be taken as lightly as 'eating greasy foods' or 'drinking alcohol'. It's just not the same, and everywhere here knows it. It fucks up the person taking it and those around them on a regular basis. Look how many people die every year from some else's drunkenness...now image how much more severe it would be if everyone was fucked up on drugs. This isn't your occasionl crackhead, this is everyone around you using drugs, because they are legal and fun and easy to get. And dont' use that argumetn that 'poeple are stupid if they choose to do them even if they are legal'. That argument doesn't work with eating the wrong things, it doesn't work with alcohol or cigarettes, and it won't work with drugs. | ||||

| But that still doesn't matter, because you shouldn't punish responsible people because of the actions of irresponsible people. I feel the same way in relation to guns. Guns, drugs, sex... those things are really similar in some respects. | ||||

| I know a group of doctors who have a cocaine party every Christmas. Should their responsible use of the drug be restricted because there are people who can't stop themselves? Responsible use of all drugs is prevalent. Of course, those are not the people we hear about... them being responsible and all. | ||||

| People make bad decisions all the time, why should we have a nanny state where the government plays the role of a parent telling people not to do stuff for drugs but not other substances? Either you think the government should be telling people what to do in their personal lives, or you don't. It's like with universal health care, one of the arguments is that people who are responsible about their health will have to pay for those who aren't.. same thing here, the government bailing people out who make bad decisions through the legislative process. | ||||
