Find me a person who dislikes Bush without question and can't articulate ideas on why they dislike him so much.

Most people in America are uninformed. That hasn't stopped them in the past from liking Bush, it's no less valid now that the pendulum has swung the other direction

Sometimes. But religion is used by the greedy as an inspiration to get people to fight on their side. It's not normally the "cause" of the war.

So even if it was. What about famine and disease? You didn't respond about those. Do you think they are caused by religion as well?

Yes, dismiss those opinions who are not in favor of george bush by calling them uninformed. I believe it is those who are informed that have a disagreement with George Bush. Those who still support him are doing it on some sort of blind faith based initiative, partisanship, or just plain uninformed.

Most legitimate and reasonable conservatives no longer support this president and his failed policies.

Disease? Yes.

For example, lets look at STD's.

Religious groups don't want to teach our teenagers how to be safe and responsible if they have sex by letting them know about condoms and other types of 'sexual activity' that doesn't include intercourse..

Why? Because the invisible man in the sky says so

Historically? Probably not aside from maybe a freak occurance of some religious practice not wanting someone to wash or whatever.

Famine? I could probably find some war that left land unfarmable thanks to a war fought for religious reasons that lead to a lack of food for people.

edit: Also, lets be clear that I'm talking about the people who control these religions, rather than religion. Religion without human influence is inert.

I'll agree, to an extent. I don't think that religion is the sole cause of many conflicts, but more often a contributer. Really, I think it just facilitates war and mistreatment because it's that much easier to kill, neglect, abuse someone when your 'faith' tells you they're going to hell anyway.

It's interesting though. Religion is the cause of most of what's going on in the middle east now. It's what's motivated shit in Africa. It's what's motivating the tensions in Iraq

I mean, religion is just such a clusterfuck all together.

Christians/other non completely pacifist are no better historically and have been perfectly willing to slaughter masses and go to war for God.

Well that is both of us using the same arguement because we do not have faith in people of opposing opinions to understand our logic. That is politics. I'm talking about the people who hate on Bush because it appears to be the "in" thing now.

It'd be interesting to see how Christians behaved if the tables were turned now. Let's say that the Middle Eastern nations had all the power and money, and instead America and Europe were as poor and uneducated as the middle east is now. I wonder if we'd see the Christian equivalents of Bin Laden and the shoe bomber start to appear.

Wrong. If people REALLY followed what most religions say; ie No Sex Before Marriage, STD's would not exist

the best discussion goes something like this:

'i can't stand bush!'

'well, why not?'

'i don't know enough to discuss politics'

I'm sorry but what you've just said changes absolutely nothing about religions not wanting real sexual education taught to our children/teenagers so they can make smart, informed decisions about being safe if they decide to have sex.

That leads to an increase in STD's, thus religion plays a role in spreading disease.

Hell, the Catholic church was against condom use. Great for a country like Africa that has an AIDS epidemic and are being told that condoms are against the way of the lord by the missionaries that were being sent!

doubt it. there are plenty of christians living in the middle east too. they aren't bombing anybody, unless it's in self-defense.

Hillary Clinton is even worse when it comes to irrational hatred. Most people who don't like her cannot articulate a legitimate reason.

Ever read the Bible? In the Bible, God is the cause of those two.

Because that's God punishing people.

There was a time in this world, in many countries, that a woman would get stoned to death for having sex outside of marriage. Biblical law has always punished the woman, even when it was the man pursuing the relationship. STD's would be around no matter what, because even the most God Fearing man of the 16th Century couldn't keep it in his pants. Even the most pious man of the Golden Age could not abide by keeping it in his pants by God's law. And every time these laws were broken, the woman is killed because she is "unclean".

The fact is, is that the way God made man, apparently he has issues with keeping it locked up. Your theory would never work. Even in the PURITAN era of this country, when every citizen was of the most astute Puritan beliefs, homosexuality, beastiality, and extramarital affairs were abound.
