Least expensive cars to drive... according to Forbes Magazine

The is perhaps the most preposterous list of cars ever collected, and the fact that Forbes thinks these cars are "least expensive to drive" is so outside of reality that I don't really even know what to say.

They didn't consider fuel milage, insurance costs, or how much it costs to buy the car to begin with. I'm not really sure what the point of this list is. Perhaps it should be " Cars for rich people that want to talk to thier rich friends about how inexpensive thier 50,000 dollar car is to drive ". I mean if you are buying a Porsche or a Caddy STS, you probably don't care all that much about how much it costs to drive the car. So why even make the list? List of stuff no one cares about. Except for me, becuase I like to make fun of crap like this.

I guarantee my Civic has a lower operating cost than any of those cars. I've had it for a little over 3 years and including gas I've probably spent maybe $4,000 on it.

That's a shitty list designed to let a bunch of rich people masturbate themselves for buying a "low maintenance" vehicle.

You've driven 45,000 miles on $4,000 worth of gas?

He's saying he spent less than $4k on his car and saying his car is better than the ones on the list becuase he spent so little on it. If he drove 19 miles then his car blows ass compared to cars on the list that cost $12k and drove 45,000 miles.

In other words, how many miles driven matters.

It states right in the first paragraph that this list is for luxury brands only. Don't know why this is so hard to understand? It falls right into Forbes target market.

We picked the lowest-cost model for each luxury brand.

Those are clearly not THE LEAST expensive cars to drive. 4 of the 10... Whatever they are close to 30 and the rest are well over. The Caymen was 70 grand. It's a stupid list. I think some of you guys just like to argue with me.

It's not that I like to argue with you, it's that you misconstrue something and then rant about it. The very first sentence of the story says "Want a luxury car without the luxury cost?"

So they start by saying they're not looking at civics. But if you want to..................

The cheapest cars to own (and fix) - MSN Money

The Honda Civic, for example, technically had the worst five-year repair cost among low-priced coupes, ....

Even if you only look at luxery brands I think the list is still stupid because it doesn't take into account price to buy the car. And if you don't care about price why do you care about cost to own?
I mean If you buy an STS, are you really concerned about how much it will cost you to drive it? the CTS is cheaper. Why not get that? Why the Caymen and not the Boxster? IF you don't consider the cost to buy the car everything else is moot. None of the cars on the list are really comparable either. You have a 26,000 dollar Audi A3 and a 70,000 Porsche Caymen. It's a list that has no point. A list no one would ever use for anything.

At 75k miles and gas being $3 a gallon (which is really only the current figure, who knows what it'll avg out to be over a 5 year span of time) my operating cost in gas is less than $6500. Oil change every 3k miles at $20 a pop is an extra $500 which bring me up to $7000 operating expenses for the timeline they have done. Not much else that my car should need within the first 5 years that would up that cost too much beyond that.

My car obviously isn't a luxury vehicle, but by their standards, and especially since my car only cost $18k and I like it, I'd say I came out ahead of anything on this list

What kind of car? Mine's a 2002 maxima and I have yet to hit 45,000 miles. I've needed one set of tires, a muffler, and then oil/filter...actually that's it.

So oil/filter twice per yr is $60/yr for $360 total.
Tires were $450.

I have no idea for gas....I have about half your miles so I'll say $3250?

So about $4,000 to operate my car for 6 years.
