Bjornstad said police didn’t anticipate protesters blocking trucks that carried cargo. Police also didn’t anticipate that small children would be amid the people blocking the trucks’ path, Bjornstad said.

Two grade-school-aged boys were among the people in the path of the trucks leaving the port, a development that Bjornstad said was “quite disturbing.” Police were not prepared for safely removing children, he said.

What's the big deal even if she did drop her baby? Accidents happen. It's not as if the mother was curb stomping her child or something over the Iraqi War.

And I like how the word anarchist is just thrown in there for absolutely no reason. Do you really read that garbage?

Well whether the children should have been there at all is debatable (not just the baby). Personally I don't really care for the use of children in politics (using them as protestors, using them in political adds etc...) But I was under the impression that this incident was being focused on simply because she accidently dropped her kid.

On Monday, I blogged about the human kiddie shields being used by anti-war thugs in Olympia to block military shipments. This afternoon, an Olympia reader e-mailed some new, exclusive photos and a first-hand report of the mother’s reckless behavior.

Malkin was complaining that women are bringing babies and said it was reckless. Days later a child did actually get hurt. Sure if she hadn't brought the kid then the babysitter could have dropped him but he wasn't at a babysitter, he was on her shoulders while she was involved in a blockade.

That's irresponsible.

Does this shit pass for journalism these days? "Thugs", "Kiddie shields", this person needs to get a life and stop spewing hate and propaganda - those parents were OBVIOUSLY not using their kids as "shields", just a stupid comment to discredit the anti-war movement

That being said, parents should not bring their kids to protest rallies. It is the parents choice to be there, the kids didn't have a choice and even if they made one, they are not of sound mind to make such decisions (that's why they don't vote and in most states we have different levels of justice for a kid that breaks the law versus an adult). Protests can become dangerous and violent, not a place for children.
