"The anarchy, chaos, pointless murders, the plundering of lands, family feuds … what do all of these have to do with the occupation?" he asked in the opinion piece published in the Palestinian newspaper, al-Ayyam. "We have always been accustomed to pinning our failures on others, and conspiratorial thinking is still widespread among us."

He was particularly scathing about the failure of the Palestinians to make a success of the Gaza Strip, the territory that Israel effectively surrendered a year ago.

"When you walk around in Gaza, you cannot help but avert your eyes from what you see: indescribable anarchy, policemen that nobody cares about, youth proudly carrying weapons. From time to time you hear that so-and-so was murdered in the middle of the night, and the response comes quickly the next morning. Large families carry weapons in tribal wars against other families.

About time someone on the Arab side brought this up.

The Palestinians have always been the bastard children of the Arab world. No Arab country wants them and the only reason they give them any aid at all is so they can continue to use them as a thorn in Israels side.

Thats a good article. It's about time someone brought this up to hopefully end the brainwashing of generations in the area. If this guy can be taken seriously perhaps they'll slowly make progress to peace.

Good article, and I agree they need to start taking a look at their own failures instead of blaming everything on Israel.

I hope this is an indication that Hamas will have a policy shift away from violence and torwards diplomacy and working to make the lives of the people who elected them better.

On that same note though, it would be nice if Israel somehow played a constructive role in improving the quality of life for them instead of bulldozing neighboorhoods and being so oppressive.

man...Israel can take this ball and run with it and extend a hand to the palestine. At least I think they should, this is a real opportunity to engage the people and perhaps get a real shift moving. The biggotry, hate etc may have a reasonable shot at being drastically reduced in the next 10 or 20 years if they start teaching their kids about working together in order to better themselves and their society.

He'll be treated like the Bill Cosby of the Palestinians. He's got good points but nobody really wants to deal with them.
