| Soldiers i just found this on another site. i know that there are alot of these but they are always cool and they always paint a great picture of soldiers compared to people here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > > You stay up for 16 hours > > He stays up for days on end. > > You take a warm shower to help you wake up. > > He goes days or weeks without running water. > > You complain of a 'headache', and call in sick. > > He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward. > > You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet > up with your friends. > > He still fights for your right to wear that shirt. > > You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket.. > > He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags. > > You talk trash about your 'buddies' that aren't with you. > > He knows he may not see some of his buddies again. > > You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls. > > He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists. > > You complain about how hot it is. > > He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow. > > You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong. > > He doesn't get to eat today. > > Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes. > > He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean. > > You go to the mall and get your hair redone. > > He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today. > > You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over. > > He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months. > > You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight. > > He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home. > > You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday. > > He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume. > > You roll your eyes as a baby cries. > > He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if > they'll ever meet. > > You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything. > > He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and > remembers why he is fighting. > > You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him. > > He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded. > > You see only what the media wants you to see. > > He sees the broken bodies lying around him. > > You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't. > > He does exactly what he is told even if it puts his life in danger. > > You stay at home and watch TV. > > He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat. > > You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable. > > He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | ||||

I think the pro-war people are trying to paint this picture and fail to see the distinction. I always thank our troops for fighting. Just because I don't think they should be over there, doesn't mean I don't respect and support the troops. ![]() no one wants another post-vietnam american attitude towards the troops.

| Some of the things on that list are bullshit. That is not a "great picture" of people here. Further, I have nothing but respect for our soldiers. My uncle was a (retired after 20 years) master sgt in the marines, i have 2 cousins in the air force, I have 3 friends in the navy, and one friend is due back from Iraq in 2-3 weeks that is in the army. The truck he was riding in was hit by an IED twice on seperate occasions, but luckily he survived with no serious injury other than cuts from glass...and some bells ringing because it was loud. Just because I don't support a conflict that we got bullshitted in to, does not mean i do not respect everyone who signs up and serves in uniform. | ||||

| what a total pile of sh*t you seem to feel that people are required to be uncritical of the war purely because in your view their everyday life is less demanding than that of those who've volunteered to do as their told, go where their told to kill & risk death & injury in whatever conflict for whatever reason that they've no discreation in? in the context of how/why this war was promoted/sold then your point is specious at best, trolling at worst & is IMO disrespectfull of CoW troopers anyway look at it this way, ..., suppose the 'you' was an ordainary non-insurgent Iraqi? or suppose the 'soldier 'was a Burmese one stopping people wearing the t-shirts of their choice? What then? My point is that the quote is a pile of trite shite designed purely to falsely undercut criticism of the war or its conduct FWIW I didnt support the CoW launching the action, but now think that the surge is both too small & very probably going to be too short. Its certainly very f*cking late. There's a failure all round to try & appreciate what really happening & the quote is a prime example of such deflectionist boll*cks. My or anyone elses, (including yours) attitude toward the troops as individual is irrelevent & no basis at all on which to base policy. They're volunteers, killing & dying is what they're for & that is exactly why they're honoured. If their suffering is form the basis for decision making then what would be the point of having a army at all anyway? Besides which the pile of trite shite makes massive assumptions anyway, its logic is no different than some racist rubbish about 'niggers' or similar Sorry for the angry style of this but crap like that gets right up my nose | ||||
