I'm going to sell a car with 90k miles, to buy a car with 85k miles...

And it just doesn't seem right. But..... I guess I'm going to do it.

My wife drives a Mercury Sable. It's been an ok car but it's not what it used to be and she is ready for something different. So we went to Carmax and she fell in love with a Toyota Sequoia Limited. It's a big V8 SUV with heated leather seats, DVD player, towing package, sun roof. Pretty much every option available. She wants more room for when we travel, and we travel a lot. It has 3 rows of seats and can seat 8 which is great because we are always towing around our kids friends.

We looked at Mini-vans as well but nothing hit her like the Toyota did.

Just seems strange that we are trading in a paid off 90,000 mile Sable for new payments on an 85,000 mile SUV.

Oh hell. Typo in the thread title. Should be "sell a car" not "see a car".

Plus you will probably pay more in gas too. Btw what year are both cars?

My wifes is a 2001. The Toyota is a 2002.

I know we will pay more in gas. I think her car is getting 24 or so. The SUV will get about 17.

We have a friend with a Sequoia and he has 155k on it and has never had a problem and runs like new. Seems not uncommon for these things to go well into 300k. Our 90k Sable doesn't run anything like new.

Oh yea Toyota's are better - though it has slipped a bit quality wise recently in 05' and 06, but they will rebound. 2002 is a good year and it sounds like you got it fully loaded!

I sold my car with 112k miles, added $2500 to the money I made, and bought practically the same car, with 140k miles.

Same year, same engine/transmission.

Nice. I'll have to upload some pics of our car. Just finished a drive from Greensboro, NC to Iron River, MI and back. I now have no regrets. The truck is friggen fantastic. Big, comfortable. We had a few snow storms while we were in MI and I got to use the 4WD. Of course I'm going to have to refinance the house to pay for all the gas we used

With the milage being equal, you are still trading up to what will be a more reliable vehicle, I don't think that there is any question there. The Toyota will be more expensive in every other way though. I bet your cost to register it and renew the registration will go up, fuel milage will go down, insurance costs will go up... and then you have payments. But I guess that's usually the way it goes when you get something nicer than what you used to have.

In Indiana the morning of our 2nd day of driving. My wife has an automatic arm. As she gets in a car it automatically grabs her phone and starts to dial. Really strange.

At my moms house in MI. It had just started to snow. By the next morning all those sleds and the tube were gone from sight. Completely covered by snow.

Oh, and I'm not fat. Those ski pants just make me look puffy
