Mostly just because I like building things. I am going to be giving these to my inlaws with the rest of thier X-mas presents. My father in law is not handy in any way so he really likes anything I do like this. He needed me to come over once because he bought a new shower head and didn't know how to install it.

I shouldn't laugh. My father-in-law mentioned wanting to buy a new car but said he was $2k short. I asked what he meant and after a few minutes realized he was trying to come up with the sticker price. So I told him "offer them less" and he said "you can do that?" I went with him to the dealer and got the car plus all the extras he said he wanted but wasn't going to get because he coudln't afford them.

well some people are raised in that "thrifty" spirit. my mom taught me well.

I just transfered her onto my cell phone plan with AT&T. I got out of paying the $150 early cancellation fee on her phone and I got out of the $30 fee for adding a line onto my plan.

you got it wrong......he was raised with a "that's the price" mentality and he wasn't willing to (a) spend it (so I guess that's thrifty) or (b) ask for a lower price.

It's (b) that confuses me. Just today I asked the roofer how to lower the price and he knocked 10% off. The electrician is out there now and knows I'm going to ask him, too, so I'm sure he's working in such a way that he maximizes his profit. Everything is negotiable. I wouldn't even think to pay for floor mats, let alone pay sticker for a car.
