| I can see why this is seen as a waste of time & I agree thats its unequal, ..., I assume that all people were present for both votes & that none represented largely 'non-christan' constituancies. OTOH the pro-Christian one seems a direct response to the earlier one & as such seems more than a little insecure & possibly even slightly small minded. Given the world situation I can see some point in the 'Ramadan Mubarak' one & also see the 'Merry Christmas' one as redundant. Voting for one & agin the other still seems unevenhanded tho' Perhaps once a year there could be a 'goodwill to all religious types' vote? As for meaning of Christmas being diminished, by far & away the greatest driver of this is the commercialisation of the religious festival, as opposed to any heathen/secularist campaign/threat Blairs appearence, (in both senses), in that vid drew aa fair bit of negitive comment on the radio this AM As for bickering about rep points, ..., I do have a point to make but, in the belief I'll deserve a point for declining to make it, I'm going to keep schtum. | ||||

| Aside from controversies surrounding their passage, does anyone even pay attention to the shit Congress does praising this or that person or event? ![]() I don't really see the point in them spending time on stuff like this when there's so much more that's not being given enough attention. | ||||

When we are at war, we have Democrats who want to argue about holidays. I agree completely, I think there are far more important things to worry about than such things. Perhaps when we have a time of economic prosperity and international peace, then we can worry about such things, but not now. But no, such is not the case.

| So our politicians shouldn't be willing to recognize it along with other religions they choose to recognize? These nearly identical bills were about our government taking the time out to recognize the holidays/religions and pay respects to the people who celebrate them. The people voting had a choice to either pay respects to the religions or not to. Nine Democrats voted against Christianity and for Islam. Last edited by JaJae; 12-14-2007 at 12:57 PM. | ||||

And impeachment is something that has to be seriously considered if the President is guilty of violating the law.. especially during a time of war. There's no reason to ignore important issues while we continue our involvement in Iraq, but there have to be priorities.

| There is a time and place for everything. They may be important, but I think there are some things that still take precedence over them. That includes our safety and security as a whole country. No minority group politics should take priority over the country, especially when we have men and women dying in a war. When the war is over and they come home, then we can talk about minority groups and civil rights. But sometimes they can just distract us from things that are more important. | ||||
