got an email sent to the group (probably 75 people)

it asked everyone to "please re-read emails before hitting send, watch what you send, please enable spellcheck, blah blah blah." At first I thought someone sent a racist/sexist/---ist joke and HR confirmed it was sent because a woman got an email with the word "tits" in it and she was offended.

on a call with my boss I got the rest of the story.............someone meant to type "...but it's......" and typo'ed "......bu tit's......" and a woman on the distribution got offended.

and HR listened to that complaint
and HR sent a message about it
and HR didn't tell that woman anything about "it was a typo"

so of course I had to test it. I typed "bu tit's" in my email client and hit spellcheck....nada. So we're getting a "reminder" about using inappropriate language because of a typo, AND they're suggesting we turn on spellcheck even though spellcheck wouldn't have caught it.

stupidity on all levels.

great googily moogily. The sad thing is that HR is virtually duty bound to actually respond to the complaint, no matter how inane it may be. If something bad came out of it and the woman filed a lawsuit, she could prove that she went to HR and they didn't do anything. Blamo, easy lawsuit for the plaintiff to win or more likely get a settlement out of court.

It was just a stupid update...we all read it and deleted it, but apparently one woman forwarded it to HR, then HR called my boss, then my boss sent an email about proof-reading email before it's sent, then HR sent their "email etiquette, and please review the corporate email policy" message

80 people involved (add in a few HR people), everyone took 5 minutes to read the boss email, everyone took 5 minutes to read the HR email, everyone took 15 minutes to review the corporate policy (we had to click to acknowledge at the end), throw in another 5 of "did you sent pr0n again??!?!?" emails shooting back and forth....... 30 minutes x 80 people and then factor in salaries....... i figure that typo cost about $3k.

calculate the cost of the LL collective discussing the pointlessness of their elected representives wishing the religious a happy religious festival

FWIW, although I think it unlikely, I can imagine a situation where ppl are deliberately making typos in order to upset someone.
Rerally for the HR dept to take this opportunity to remind everyone of therules seems fair enough, ..., they've got to justify their existance somehow, ..., keeps them off the streets etc

btw fanx to the admins, (& their employers/shareholders?) for endlessly having to deliberate over infractions & other possible breaches of board ettiquette, ..., FOR NO PAY

It's a mistake to think that people would be working if they were not posting here. Sometimes people need a distraction from what they are doing. If not for this it would just be something else in it's place.
