Schwarzenegger sued over veto of funds for mentally ill homeless

Mental patients and advocates sued the state Thursday over Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's veto of funding for a $55 million program for mentally ill, homeless adults, saying the action violated a voter-approved law and endangered services to 4,700 people.
Schwarzenegger eliminated funding for the program in August as part of $703 million in cuts to a state budget that had been delayed for nearly two months by Republican legislators, who insisted on spending reductions before ending the deadlock.

Frivolous lawsuit. I hate this crap. People aren't entitled to government money. This is a horrible lawsuit. Federal and State aid is a privilege. It is not a right and it is not something you should be able to directly sue politicians over.

"H.D. Palmer, spokesman for the state Finance Department, said the Schwarzenegger administration interprets Prop. 63 as a prohibition on cuts in overall state funding of county mental health programs, apart from the newly available tax money. Palmer said the state is spending $741 million on those programs from its general fund this year, compared with $558 million in the year before the ballot measure passed."

They spend more and get more complaints! This is why our California Propositions are so insane. They constantly mandate more and more spending and try to lock it in place no matter what we need as a priority in the budget or the revenue base. Just hope your State is not doing the same!
