Wow, Christmas is expensive

I ordered most of my kids things from Amazon and my wife and I went shopping this weekend for the rest of our family and friends. We spend almost $4000 on gifts this year. Fark.....

jeez! My wife and I set a $200 limit on each other and we set $50 limit on each member of our families. We came out at $200 x2 + $50 x8 = $800.

There are either some massively expensive gifts in there, or you have a ginormous family

Same goes for us. 200 for each other, 100 for our kids, and 50 for family members. We came in around 1200 - 1400 this year.

yeah I think we normally spend something like 1500 or so. This, year because my company got acquired and they paid out all of our stock options, we spent alot more than usual.

It seems like a reasonable system. There's no other way to make it fair imo. Plus the last thing I want is to get in a spending war with my wife because in the end we both lose

We do have a big family. My wife has 4 brothers and then all their kids. We have lots of God kids that we get gifts for. It's great having this much family and friends, well, except at Christmas.

This is the most we have ever spent though. Hell, $500 of that was the telescope I bought. I called my wife and told her and she said "Yikes. It was fun though, wasn't it?" Yeah, I guess it was

It always feels good to spend money on other people, getting them something you'll know they'll really like or appreciate.. at least for me

I spend a lot of time trying to pick out presents. My family isn't huge, but I try to get everyone something they'll like instead of a gift card or something lame

i probably spend about 1K every year on xmas stuff. i have my mom, my brother, his wife, and my sister, then i have my step mom, step sister, her husband, 2 kids, step brother (who i actually dont buy anything for) but he has a kid.

then i have some close friends and my cousins that live in RI. i dont buy anything for my cousins anymore, and i usually tell my friends not to get anything for me either.... but that's still a lot of stuff to get!

Good for you!

I read that something like 60% give gift cards and only 20% want them!

If you really have no clue what to give how about an envelope with Cash? Works everywhere and does not expire!
