| Magic endorses Hillary: Eat it Oprah From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones DES MOINES, Iowa -- The good mood continued for Hillary Clinton, who was out campaigning with her husband on Tuesday here in Iowa. It was the first time the couple has appeared together on the campaign trail here since a forum on minority issues on Dec. 1. Before that, they last campaigned in the state over Labor Day weekend, her staffers said. NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson, joined the former First Couple on the trail at a Hy-Vee grocery store Tuesday morning in front of a mostly black crowd of about 40 people, many of whom were high school and junior high school basketball players, school principals an their relatives. Magic went around the room high-fiving the spectators, while the Clintons signed autographs. When asked why he supported the New York senator over Obama, Magic cited her years of experience. "I love the Clintons, and I just know Sen. Clinton is the best candidate to move our country forward," he said during a brief, hastilty arranged press conference. A cheerful Mrs. Clinton -- who pretended to do a jump shot as she entered the store -- spoke only briefly, joking with a reporter who asked about her apparent good mood Monday by saying, "You mean I got my groove back?" (A reference to the Terry McMillan novel "How Stella Got Her Groove Back", which was a hit among black women readers in the 1990s.) "I feel great," she said. "You know, I love campaigning. I like getting out and meeting new people, and this is the time when Iowans start making up their minds. So there's an intensity and sense of seriousness that is palpable, and I felt it all day Sunday; I felt it all day yesterday. I'm looking forward to getting out again today." The Clintons, Magic and a day in Iowa - First Read - msnbc.com Johnson is way oooler than Oprah, and I'm sick of celebrities who greatly overshadow their candidate...those 18,000 people went to see Oprah, and people are going to base their vote on Oprah No one is going to base their vote on Magic Johnson, but he's a proven fighter and I think his AIDS awareness/nationwise fight has educated him politically Probably more than Oprah and her condescending attitudes towards audience members who questioned the Iraq situation in 2003...pro-war cheerleader that she was until it was cool to be questionable about the war, and then it was cool to be somewhat anti-war Last edited by Thorgrim; 12-18-2007 at 03:09 PM. | ||||

Plus you have the power of Oprah's television show. Sounds like Hillary got the short end of the stick. I would much prefer to be in Obama's shoes right now if I were running for president.

| Endorsements in general are worthless and just detract from the candidate. I'm so sick of hearing about the "Oprah Effect" or whatever they're calling it now. | ||||

| I'm pretty sure there are more homosexual presidential primary voters, compared to blacks and AIDS is a dark stain on our history against gay americans BTW to others: Oprah may have been a bigger endorsement, but it was way overhyped...Clinton needs endorsements from real approachable people like magic johnson oprah's endorsement came on like it was another one of her tv shows that are so epic it makes you think she should be running instead Magic's endorsement was just heartfelt and another badge to add | ||||

| I think if you're in Iowa and he's stopping around some places for you, it's a nice reminder that she's not only the best general election candidate but she's also a person people like | ||||

| I don't think Edwards/Obama have an impression INSIDE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY that people don't like their personalities And all the polls show Hillary is probably the only one who could beat McCain, that and common sense (he's going to run hard foreign policy, what are Edwards/Obama gonna say...i have no idea exactly what Hillary will say, but I know it's been planned out for...months if not years and is constantly being tweaked and upgraded so when she tackles the GE candidate she can respond to "inexperience" issues Bill I think tipped his hand when he said Hillary was involved in a lot of foreign policy meetings at the highest levels, ofcourse, naturally, her opinion only mattered when things went well but voters will buy that, after all what GOP candidate is seriously going to say "It was YOUR IDEA to do X" (x being something Clinton did) and voters to take it seriously | ||||

Principles are principles. They have nothing to do with how well you're liked. If you say one thing and do something else, like espouse freedom and low spending as RP does but then endorse a candidate who wants tax hikes for more spending and to enslave citizens to one another, then I have no interest in you anymore.

| I can't begin to convey how much pleasure I get from Hillary dropping in the polls. As a true progressive, I am disgusted with her pandering and waffling on issues. She is the absolute worst candidate that is running for the Democrats right now, and it is sad that I would still take her over any of the GOP candidates save Paul. | ||||
