Why shouldn't law-abiding citizens be allowed to own whatever firearms they desire?

How often do you hear about criminals using automatic weapons in crime? It's pretty rare AFAIK. But if manufacturers started pumping out automatic weapons like crazy if they became legal, it wouldn't take long for them to trickle down to criminals, and then suddenly auto weapons used in crime wouldn't be so rare.

automatic weapons aren't the end all be all of dangerous weapons. If I wanted to kill as many people with a gun, I would go with a remington 700 and into a tower around crowded people. You don't need automatic weapons to kill lots of people.

my grandpa has over 100 semi-auto shotguns, over 175 guns total - he's never shot anyone and he has a whole arsenal

Do you realize how much money it would cost the government i,e. we the taxpayers, to clean up the messes that would be made if non-law abiding citizens could obtain any weapon they so desired???

If law abiding citizens have access to any weapon of their choice, non-law abiding citizens will be able to do the same only cheaper.

We pay taxes in order for our government to arm each of us by proxy through our military.
I believe it is a much cheaper way to go in the long run.

I'm getting my concealed carry permit soon, and probably a medium sized 9mm

I think of it as a civic duty for those that are capable of carrying to do so (pending that they want to, of course), thereby acting as a deterrant for criminals against everyone in places where anyone could be armed.

You ain't messing with nobody's purse in the mall parking lot if 10% of the public has a weapon to draw on you. Or you have to be less likely to do so, if you have a brain at all.

I hope Ohio adopts a "stand your ground" law, although I do see how it can be abused.
