| Three Representatives Want Impeachment Hearings You know your country is effed when not only does the mainstream media not cover this, but even message boards with hundreds of users never got the news. wtf? I searched these forums before I posted this, and I am amazed this didn't get a mention. Good thing I came along, huh? Impeachment Gets Even More Traction Three members of the House Judiciary Committee have co-authored an op-ed in which they express their view that impeachment hearings should begin for Dick Cheney to investigate the deceptive actions he took with regard to intelligence on Iraq's weapons program before the start of the Iraq war, to investigate the actions he took to reveal the identity of a covert agent, and to investigate the actions he took toward the illegal wiretapping of Americans without a warrant. The op-ed is available here: A Case for Impeachment Hearings However, it will be an uphill battle for these members of Congress because of the Democratic leadership's decision that it is more politically expedient to ignore the high crimes and misdemeanors committed by the vice president. It is therefore important for these members of Congress calling for impeachment that their colleagues know Americans are behind them and support their efforts to uphold the rule of law. The three representatives calling for impeachment hearings are Robert Wexler (D-FL), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI). Representative Wexler has started an online petition that he will use to persuade his other colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee that impeachment hearings should be begun as soon as possible. If you support the efforts of Robert Wexler and his colleagues to impeach Dick Cheney, please go here to express your support: Join Wexler's Call for Cheney Hearings | ||||

| The MSM knows nobody will care about this. Even the MSM knows that many Democratic leaders are total whack-jobs and are wasting their time with trying to pursue endeavors that are never attainable. The Democrats are under fire for basically doing NOTHING the past couple years, their approval ratings are lower than ever, and the MSM knows this. If this were really pushed to the public, the public would roll their eyes yet again at the idiocy involved in trying to get Bush impeached. The MSM didn't push it because they are protecting the image of the Democrats, not because they are against them. Other than that, it's wonderful that you came along, it's nice to have you, and welcome to the board! | ||||

| The MSM has had no shortage on stories regarding a possible impeachment of Bush. The reality is that the top leaders of the Democratic party do not support impeachment of Bush. Apparently they think the best thing for the country is to not go forward with an impeachment, which when you hear them speak about Bush for 2 seconds you realize that's a bunch of bull. I strongly think the reason we won't see an impeachment of Bush is because there are too many Democrats who would be run through the mud. They supported Bush with just about everything along the way and even in the case of torture, they were briefed well in advance. Among other things a lot of dirt would come out on the Democrats as well as the GOP, Bush would not go down alone. Their approval rating is already lower than we've ever seen before and pushing forward on an impeachment would just make our government even less productive and in the end accomplish nothing. There's less than a year before elections. What is an impeachment trial going to accomplish for the Democrats? It would most likely fail and only hurt them. | ||||

| It is getting to the point where the impeachment stuff is becoming political rhetoric. It serves as nothing more than a threat with no teeth to benefit the politician making the claims. They know it will never happen and that the Democratic leaders would never permit it. It's a means to gather support from the netroots and voters within their party... hence the online petition. Sign the thing and you'll become a statistic used in a speech on the House floor that will get played on youtube and liberal blogs. Once the speech is given the MSM will likely report on it, but it will get its biggest play at its target audience.. internet liberals. | ||||

| It's a shame it's an e-petition instead of a drive to get people to phone, fax, email, write, etc. As far as being targeted to "internet liberals" - you can see what a e-campaign done right can do by the fact that the bs intelligence commitee's FISA bill was postponed after the groundswell of support for stopping it started making calls and sending faxes, etc.. | ||||

| Call me back when there are three Senators in favor of this. And seriously, as much as I love Ron Paul, I really hate seeing 'MSM' everywhere nowadays. | ||||

These actions IMO are egregious violations that harm our system and which precedents allow power to concentrate more onto one branch.
The rub of course is that if we hold government to such a strict standard then the entire congress as well the president are guilty of violating the constitution - the greatest one being the rise of bureaucracies that shift many legislative power to unelected and unaccounted desk jockies (bureaucrats) that through a democratic process.
