| Charlie Wilson's War great movie. I saw it last night. I highly recommend it. I hope the masses get out there and see it especially because it will enlighten the masses "hopefully" to understand part of the situation in the middle east right now. Phillip Seymour Hoffman should get a nod for best supporting actor. I especially love the quote at the end of the movie.

| The movie has two of my most hated actors in it: Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. I may watch it one day when it comes on Showtime if I'm feeling like putting up with those two, but I can't bring myself to pay money directly promoting their careers. | ||||

| The History Channel did a great spot on the movie with interviews of the real people. I can't imagine the movie being better than that. | ||||

| They suck. Tom Hanks was fine in the 80's, but I wish he'd have stayed there with Molly Ringwald and Steve Guttenburg. Don't get me wrong, just as Nick Cage (my MOST hated actor of all time), he's been in a few good movies since the afore mentioned time period, but I feel all of them would have been better without him in it (for instance, Saving Private Ryan... he should have just been the brains behind it, not acted in it). Julia Roberts has never been good. Except for a VERY few exceptions, mostly where she didn't have much screen time, her filmography looks like someone kept shitting in a hat and handing it to her and telling her it was a movie. She's not pretty, she's untalented, and she's been in a LOT of shit movies (yes, including "Pretty Woman" which should have been named "Not completely horrible looking prostitute is really annoying"). The one movie of hers that I hated to love was Closer, and the whole time I was screaming "Why the fuck are you even bothering with her when there's Natalie Portman in a G-String?!? What the fuck is wrong with you people?!?!" Of course, the fact that she was 1 of 4 main parts and that movie did water down my distaste for her being on the screen. But hey, that's just one guy's opinion. Although it is the correct opinion | ||||

| I'll agree with that, although Matrix (the original) was so good, and eventhough it could have been COMPLETELY accidental, he was great for that part. In the second two he was just as good for the parts, but they just weren't as bad ass as the first. Every other movie he's been in, however, complete shit. | ||||

| Tom hanks is one of the best actors of our time. He is one of few actors who has the ability to play just about any role and make it believable. He isn't type-casted to any particular role like most actors are in Hollywood. | ||||

| I think Tom Hanks is great, though they should have gotten someone else for Da Vinci Code... and Julia Roberts is also great, they've both been in a lot of good movies, along with Nicolas Cage.. | ||||

| I respectfully and whole-heartedly disagree. Tom Hanks always plays the same guy, even when it's completely uncalled for, and Julia Roberts couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. She has also been in VERY few decent movies, especially considering she's been in nearly 50 movies (even if I could come up with 5 that were decent, which I doubt, 10% ain't a good ratio). | ||||

| Tom Hanks plays the same guy? Like JaJae said, he can take a lot of roles and play them well. He's not Johnny Depp, but then again, no one is. I have always thought Julia Roberts characters were believable in the movies I've seen | ||||

Forest Gump was God awful it was just his same old character with a retard-accent, but then Philadelphia wasn't bad... but then, it's been a number of years since I"ve seen that movie. Sleepless in Seattle was an exceptionally blah (note the oxymoron there) performance, but hey, if a story makes you money, might as well paint it purple and resell it 5 years later with a more modern twist (Oooo... email!)
Anyhow, enough about that small time frame, I welcome you to point me to a movie that he was doing some stellar acting. | ||||

| Oh, I won't just tell you it's shit. I'll tell you precisely why it's shit: why he sucked in the movie or why the movie sucked in general. My hatred for Hanks isn't something I just came up with, it's years in the making. | ||||

| I have to agree with Cage. He is in the same league as Keanu Reeves. Both terrible actors that have happened to be in some great movies where their non-talent didn't hurt as much as it should have. | ||||

| Film critics and the audiences in general BOTH disagree with you...so I don't know what you expect... It's like you want to say Starry Night is absolute crap and Van Gogh was a horrible painter...ok thanks but that's just a random and the kind of opinion that started the smilieYou want a list? I think he did great acting in Road to Perdition, Cast Away, The Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan, Apollo 13, Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, A League of Their Own...everything else goes back into the 80s, but I have to mention one, Volunteers An absolutely stupid movie, but Tom Hanks performance really makes it worth watching late at night...even if at the end you can't call it a good movie, in his early days he was able to great a good film almost on his own Now, if you can say an arrogant ivy brat, heroic and strong-willed WW2 Captain, drunk ex-baseball player, capable but flawed prison guard, irish hitman, NASA crisis leader, overly ambitious and then suffering aids victim, a mentally retarded man, and a survivor...are all the same exact character...and they were all played terribly...well go check out the reviews, the public and critics both loved his performances If you get real specific, there are some over-laps in character traits as in Saving Private Ryan and Apollo 13 both had cool-headed heroes...well that's what the script called for...you get cast as the lead protagonist that's what you play...you may be getting "successful" confused with "type-cast" I think it's great that in many films he approaches the film subtley, he doesn't over-act or try to steal the show...that's a good thing I'd like to know your "oh-gee-they-are-gods" list of actors, and I'm sure anyone here can tear them apart | ||||
