Yes and Alexander the Great made some tactical errors in his life, everyone is flawed, but I don't think anyone questions he was "Great"

Certainly there has been some actor, somewhere, sometime, that has been great, don't you think? Greek theater alone is thousands of years old

Dude, all the ones I listed I like. I was merely qualifying my like for them, and pointing out that my like is not unconditional. I can't just say "I like X" because then next thing I know, X is doing shit work, selling out, and abandoning the art.

Here we reach an impasse, you think acting is a profession devoid of greatness because people sell out or do shit work

which is your opinion, but I don't think there is anything special about acting that makes it impossible to have a great actor

Who is an actor that is "Great"?

Daniel Day-Lewis

I'm not going to debate the issue as stated, we've reached an impasse

wait, what? No, and actor can do blockbuster movies and do them well. Doing movies exclusively for the money (eg., only choosing what promises to gross high), however, probably isn't going to make you a good actor.

For instance: Ben Affleck I THOUGHT was going to do decent work when I saw him in Chasing Amy and Good Will Hunting. However, after all that he chose movies that had a big pay check and sucked at them. Daredevil, for instance, is a movie I have griped about since I saw it. Mediocre (at best) cast, shitty plot, loaded up with bad CG, sack-riding a popular-at-the-time genre (comic book flicks). And Affleck? Crappy, crappy job. If I lose being immersed into a film because I'm distracted by bad acting (which you'll notice I complained about for a few of Hanks' movies), then the actor did a shit job.

Anyhow, the point is I based an early opinion of Affleck on what I had seen of him, but he blew it soon after that that warranted me changing my opinion.

Is that not how everyone views EVERYTHING? Can an actor not change his quality of work and cause you to no longer think they're good?

dude, i was right on target!

The story is set in 1957, and this time Dr. Jones goes up against cold-blooded, Cold War Russkies—led by Cate Blanchett in dominatrix mode.

I haven't heard too much about it. There are rumors about him having a son who becomes an archaeologist who gets himself in trouble and daddy has to bail him out. It takes place 20 years or so after the last movie was set to take into consideration Ford's age. Shia LaBeouf plays his sidekick or son. The script is still kinda secretive other than it has to do with the Soviets. It was filmed in the US, Mexico and Peru and probably has something to do with the Mayans.

doesn't say Peru, unless i read it wrong. it was filmed in Ct, New Mexico and California.

Aside from the New Mexico location, the film was shot in New Haven, Connecticut; Fresno, California; and Hawaii, with significant work taking place on lots built at Downey Studios, in southeast Los Angeles.

My favorite actors. Let's see:

Peter O'Toole
Anthony Hopkins
Robert Duvall
Ed Harris
Johnny Depp (yeah, finally a young guy)

Actresses are a much shorter list:
Katharine Hepburn
Jodie Foster

Hell, I can't think of anymore!

I really love Johnny Depp in most things he has done.

For the girls, I really enjoy Helena Bonham Carter, she plays some risky and interesting parts. Maggie Gyllenhaal is really talented. So is Reese Witherspoon.

Anyone ever see Freeway?

Keifer Sutherland is an awesome actor too.

One of my fav movies (and roles) of his was from Dark City, even though it was supporting.
