Polls show GOP slipping, but Democrats no better off

Polls show GOP slipping, but Democrats no better off

in a nation that is war-weary and eager for change yet seems wary of the Democratic option
Yet Democrats, long out of power, are loath to predict publicly they will gain the six Senate and 15 House seats they need for control of Congress
"I think a lot of Democrats come across as crazies."
it's important that, while we constantly see how the republicans are at risk for losing control of congress or the whitehouse in the near future, the american people aren't exactly impressed with the democratic party either.

I think it's safe to say no one is very "excited" about either party these days.

most certainly, but amidst all these threads and all this excitement of the 'democrats regaining control' it's important to keep ones head straight and remember that it's not necessarily a sure thing

People weren't particularly thrilled with the GOP in late August of 94

Just two years ago they had tossed out Bush I, and 6 before that they had given the Democrats back the Senate in the middle of the Reagan years

Very true...

Although I think the american people aren't happy with either party. They're simply putting partisan shit ahead of the country and what NEEDS to be done.

Here in Texas alone there are a couple of real Libertarian contenders in U.S. House races, and several in State House/Senate races.

so that doesn't really leave us with an idea of who will win. the people are unhappy with republicans, but might still vote them in. the people are unhappy with the democrats, but might still vote them in. where does that leave us?

If Democrats are no better off, then why are there some 55 unsafe GOP seats in danger of being lost to the Democrats and only 20 unsafe dem seats?

What happened in '94 is paralleled fairly well in what's going on now. That's been covered many times

It's a shame. This should be an easy victory for the Dems as was 04, yet they can't get their head out of their asses and get off the anybody but ____ campaign.

They need to stop blaming Bush and the GOP for everything and forget that people want answers. The blame is fine and it's rightfully deserved, but if they would spend half the effort they're spending badmouthing the GOP on developing realistic ideals they can sell the American people, they'd be far better off.

It sounds more like the exact same shit I (and quite a few others) was saying in 2004 when I couldn't believe that the dems took what should have been an easy win and turned it into a lose.

That's exactly what Novak and Krauthammer and others were saying in 94

Blame works, look at what happened in 04. They blamed Democrats for this, for that, and said Democrats hated America and we'd be attacked if Democrats were elected.

They didn't have a positive agenda with plans for pesky things like "Iraq" or actually "making us safer" aside from their rhetoric.. and they won.
