PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton's eyes welled up and her voice broke repeatedly Monday as she talked with voters in a restaurant about her campaign for the presidency.
The former first lady was making a last-minute pitch for votes as she spoke on the eve of the state's primary, with polls showing her trailing Barack Obama.
Asked by a sympathetic voter how she keeps going in the grueling campaign, she replied, "It's not easy. It's not easy."
"I've had so many wonderful opportunities in this country," she said, her voice catching. "This is very personal for me. It's not just political. It's not just public."
"Some people think elections are a game," she said went on. "It's about our country. It's about our kids' futures. It's really about all of us together. You know some of us put ourselves and do this against some pretty difficult odds. And we do it, each one of us because we care about our country. Some of us are right and some of us are wrong. Some of us are ready and some of us are not."
The New Hampshire voters crowded into the little restaurant filled in gaps with encouraging applause several times when she paused, seemingly to control her voice.

This is what happens when the polls show her behind for the first time, she

What does having a hooker have to do with being a hack? Is Hugh Grant a hack too?

He worked for the Clintons very closely for a long time. If anybody has a perspective about them and their lives, it's him.

She really has not campaigned very well. She lets Obama and Edwards get to her that is not a good sign to me. She is the one with the most experience but she has not acted smart, experienced, and mature. I tell you she has not shown she is presidental.

As long as it wasn't during his 2000 campaign, you see, when someone lies about what they are going to do if elected, cries when he is supposed to be leading the nation, have scandal after scandal, it's fine as long as you're a republican president: you're an excellent leader who deserves re-eleciton

She is obviously exhausted and shows the tinniest bit of emotion and goes back to sturdy in a few seconds, not one tear and I can't even spot one forming

I think Bush's voice has cracked in a similiar fashion while doing interviews before, at least twice...no I don't have a link

Man you guys really hate Hillary, I was thinking she was wiping her eyes, she had to take a minute to breathe and come back more focused

She did an excellent job and it's a great speech

I have no sympathy for her here, nor do I buy into the crap it seems she's trying to sell. What about when she knew full well her husband was a sexual predator and she turned the media and power of the White House against their claims? Or how about when she had the FBI investigate the White House Travel Office employees when she knew they didn't do anything wrong, but wanted her friends to have their jobs? Those people I have sympathy for. A pathetic woman emotionally distressed from the toll of running for president.. spare me. If you can't handle the heat get the hell out of the kitchen.

Bla bla bla It's soooo hard running for president... sniff sniff , but I love my country.. sniff sniff...

speculation and more speculation, the Starr report cost tens of millions of dollars and investigated every aspect of the Clintons' life, they found nothing of substance except a relationship with an adult by the President

Today, in Dover, Francine Torge, a former John Edwards supporter, said this while introducing Mrs. Clinton: “Some people compare one of the other candidates to John F. Kennedy. But he was assassinated. And Lyndon Baines Johnson was the one who actually” passed the civil rights legislation.

The comment, an apparent reference to Senator Barack Obama, is particularly striking given documented fears among blacks that Mr. Obama will be assassinated if elected.

Phil Singer, a Clinton spokesman said: “We were not aware that this person was going to make those comments and disapprove of them completely. They were totally inappropriate.”

Mrs. Clinton’s expression did not change noticeably when Ms. Torge made the comment.

Only a few hours later, she brought up the civil rights legislation herself in remarks to a Fox News correspondent.

Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama have been in a running feud arising from her suggestion at Saturday’s debate that he was raising “false hope.”

Mr. Obama responded that Mr. Kennedy did not decide going to the moon was a false hope and that Martin Luther King, Jr. did not see ending segregation as such.

“Dr. King’s dream began to be realized when President Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act,” Mrs. Clinton said when asked about Mr. Obama’s rejoinder by Fox’s Major Garrett after her speech in Dover. “It took a president to get it done.”
