| Anyone else try or use Vongo? They have a 2 week free trial so I figured I would sign up and check it out. They really sell it as a competitor to NetFlix and Blockbuster only better because you get the movies instantly ( well it actually takes 20-30 minutes to download a movie ). The first thing I noticed is that the software you have to install to user thier service... well... it stinks. Browsing movies is just not easy. You can view new releases and top picks easy enough, but if you want to browse a catagory you don't ever seem to see all of the movies. It also installs some sort of "agent" that runs all the time in the system tray. I have no idea why there would need to be an agent like this. It's just a waste of system resources. The movies do look pretty decent though, even set to full screen on my laptops 17" widescreen monitor they looked decent. Not great. Just decent. Now the bad part. Vongo is Starz. They don't really sell it as such, but they don't really try and hide it either. So imagine the sort of movies that they play on the Starz channel and that is what you get on Vongo. There are alot of strange B movies, and zero new releases. If it just came out on DVD, Vongo won't have it. Netflix and Blockbuster will. That's a big drawback and I am not sure if it will be worth 10 dollars a month for 5 year old movies that I probably already saw on Cable. It is nice, however, To be able to browse through all of thier titles and watch any one of them right away. Sort of lke ON demand from Comcast, but it's on my laptop, which means I can take the stuff with me. I also retain the movies until Starz no longer has a license to use them. not bad. Pros: Instant movies on my PC when I want them. The ability to transfer movies to my portable media player and take them on the go. (I have a Zen Vision W so it works for me, but it is NOT compatible with Apple's products. That will be a killer for many) Cons: Terrible selection. Crummy intrusive software. Some movies are pay per view. WTF. I already pay 10 dollars a month and you want me to pay again to see the good movies? No thanks. | ||||
