Why burn down the factory when you just need to make an outline of tools on a peg board?

If you think that's all it needs, then let's try to fix it. But shit has been tried to be fixed for years, and how much shit has actually been fixed?

I can't think of anything

YouTube - Glenn Beck - The Real Story, Touching the Third Rail

Ignore the reference to RP that beck makes, and just listen to the comptroller general's comments.

Interesting

There is always one quick example, how much is the western US worth...i mean mineral wise, farming wise, etc

I am sure if everyone vaporized their homes and left, the empty US of 2008...with all its oil, natural gas, uranium, farming land, etc...is worth an UNIMAGINEABLE amount of money, think of the government then went in and set up its own resource harvesting companies, own government farms, you didn't have to join but you could if you wanted a different job, think of all that money the government could be making, or scratch that, think of how much China would be willing to pay to buy that land, an astounding amount

The US had an empty west where they controlled 99% of the land, federally...and they knew it was full of resources...what did they do?

They gave it away to the taxpayers

The US governmental knowingly took a HUGE loss to help our nation grow, and we were never taxed for it, there's no "we gave you the west now give us some money" tax, people just take it for granted and act like the ultimate spoiled brats

Anytime the government gives up a future right to something...a value that required little to no taxes, libertarians look the other way and pretend it didn't happen

The government is not a cost center. It has no way to make money on its own. Giving it to the tax payers was the only option. They didn't take a loss, there's nothing they could have legally done with the land to pull out the resources.

And besides, years later the government took all our land back. We only own the real estate, not the land.

Like any other entity it could come into posssession of intellectual or real property that will and has great accelerated in value

In these situations, instead of making money off of it to lower the debt, like any business would (if it were running a debt) it gives them away to Americans, because we live in a kick ass country when all is said and done

But again, let's go back to saying how horrible they are

It's because our government is owned part and parcel by special interests. We have to fix that first and but we can't just give up and cede all power to the markets.

Watched it and I thought it was funny how he let it slip at the end that the social security account was actually running a surplus. He's got a point though about reining in the spending though.

My wife made over $80k last year but doesn't get Federal taxes taken out of her checks. I had a $5000 overpay in Federal. With her deductions and my overpay we still got some $$$ back.

I don't know how similar they are to me right now but you can't discount the Bill Hicks moment either.
