So who won the recent Reagan debate?

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

The GOP debates all repeat themselves on who is most like Ronald Reagan

I'd have to say Mitt Romney...both governors who implemented non-conservative agendas but come primary time did big flip flops and made dramatic promises they can't possibly hope to keep

I was around, though no politically aware, during the 1980s, older relatives and historians were, and to be honest, from 1983-1986...about 3 years of growth/no scandals...5 years of economic problems or scandals

Let's look at the issues that the candidates are presented with today, and what Reagan did:

Terrorism: He ran like a sissy from Lebanon after the first punch
Immirgration: Amnesty to Illegals
Taxes: Raised them more times than he cut them
Character: AIDs response was basically homophobic, he was divorced, and didn't even recognize his son because of how much he neglected any sort of personal family values
Abortion: 2/3 of his SC nominations were fairly pro-choice, especially O'Connor, and he made no serious efforts to lower it
Affirmative Actions: 2/3 of his SC nominees are pro-AA, law wise did nothing on it
Crime: Sky-rocketed in the 80s
Welfare: It was Bill Clinton who reformed Welfare
Army: Created a huge budget whole that Clinton dug us out of with hard base closings and military cuts, and *gasp* turns out as we saw in Afghanistan, we didn't need that all that crap

I don't know what all the fuss is about, but man, it sure is pathetic to see a group of, what I previously thought were accomplished men, trying to emulate their entire life goals around being the closest thing to another person

Bush still would have lost to Dukakis if the economy was in the tubes and there was an unpopular war going on, even though he conducted the worst campaign of all time and he had no idea how to run for president

2 terms of Bush-GOP + economic recession + war in Iraq = Democratic President

Like the Democrats aren't stuck in the past. I don't think I can listen through one speech without them speaking of the "good old days" under Clinton.

i didn't hear anyone in 2004 saying they were the most like Clinton...

And people in general, not democrats, all want to go back to the late 90s boom, it was an exciting time, ever since Bush took over it's been shit

that's not "longing for the past" it's longing for economic growth that EVERYONE is enjoying, and where we are doing things like balancing the budget not invading other countries, and civil rights are at historic highs

Uh, well, for one Obama continues to bring up JFK and MLK. They're farther in the past than Reagan.

Clinton has policies that go hand-in-hand with Marx. That's somewhere in the past.

To answer the question, Thompson won the Reagan debate, like he's won ever other Republican debate.

Too bad his campaign will soon die in South Carolina. He has the charisma of a block of wood...and I thought Kerry was bad.

How many times has Hillary Clinton brought up Karl Marx...please feel free to use youtube links

Probably the same amount of time Rudy's campaign has compared it's vision of the future with that of the Gestapo's

Reagan, 9/11, terrorists, Reagan, 9/11, terrorists...

Pretty standard...try to scare people and compare themselves to one of the most overrated presidents ever.

Are you suggesting Democrats don't use 'scare tactics'?

How about '40 million children don't have health insurance in this country!!!'. That sounds like a scare tactic to me.

Reagan as a great president wasn't the truth? 9/11 never happened? Terrorists are not true?

It seems you have more to worry about than what b2w thinks about children with insurance...

It is pretty 'scary' but at least it is a fact they can associate to statistics.

"If we aren't there they will follow us home" is not only 'scary' but complete bullshit that they can't prove...especially when those who do attack us say the main reason they are attacking us is because we are there.

Of course they'll say that, they can convince 50% of our country to turn against itself in the war. Best tactic they ever devised.
