Why the fuck do I have to renew my contact prescription *feeling libertarian today*

I tried to order a new box of contacts from a website and I get a message back telling me my prescription is out of date. Then I come to find out it's a Federal law that all eyesight prescriptions expire in 1 year. So now I have to go out and get a new prescription for the same shit I was wearing a week ago.

I understand there are plenty of reasons I should go to the eye doctor and have him check my eyes for problems. But that should be between me and my doctor. He can advise me whatever he wants. The Feds however should have zero say as to what I put in my eye. Until it causes my eye to explode killing everyone around me, it's no ones business but mine.

I am sick of having what I can do to my body policed.

Libertarian socialism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Noam Chomsky claims to be one... It actually predates capitalist Libertarianism according to him, but modern American libertarian thought obviously isn't related to socialism.

Because your eyesight changes over time, thus rendering your previous contacts useless, thus requiring you to get a checkup and a new prescription.

I think everyone understands that. But people have a problem with it being required by law that you go back once a year.

I like alot of socialist programs, ie: roads, police, firefighting, health clinics, education, nasa

But I'm firmly against legislating anything one does to ones own body and activities done on private property.

So I am not sure if that fits the definition.

I say the government shouldn't make them go back, as long the government insures the patients don't try to sue the docs or pharma company's when they have something go wrong because they didn't follow instructions.

Yes, they are. Not saying they are right or wrong, good or bad. But they are socialist.

If those agencies were private, then they would not be socialist. If they are funded by and controlled by a central government, then they have to, by definition, be socialist.

Again, not saying that's bad or that it is anywhere near Marxism, but the idea behind public services paid through by tax coercion and controlled by a central government are socialistic.

But then again, socialist is not exactly the proper term either. They are certainly statist, but socialist, in it's pure definition, can exist with or without a central government.

No, the mostly democratic, capitalist society that our founding fathers created included a specific role of government. Fulfilling some of these was part of the government we were originally intended to have.

The government the founding fathers created did not address firefighters or police or roads (except for postal roads).
