Ross Perot slams McCain on POW issue and personal life

"After he came home, he walked with a limp, she [Carol McCain] walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona [Cindy McCain, his current wife] and the rest is history."

Perot's real problem with McCain is that he believes the senator hushed up evidence that live POWs were left behind in Vietnam and even transferred to the Soviet Union for human experimentation, a charge Perot says he heard from a senior Vietnamese official in the 1980s. "There's evidence, evidence, evidence," Perot claims. "McCain was adamant about shutting down anything to do with recovering POWs."

Ouch, I wonder if this will play in SC, I wonder if people are answering McCain on the phone in SC because they don't want to sound like hicks (Huckabee) or basing their votes on appearance (Romney) so they say McCain because he's the big PoW from 'nam

Or does no one care what Ross Perot has to say anymore?

People slam Perot but he was right about a lot of things. We probably would have been better off if he were elected.

Not surprisingly, McCain sees it differently. He has told me several times over the years that the myth of live POWs was a cruel hoax on the families. He chaired hearings into the issue in the 1990s and found nothing. "The committee did an exhaustive job and pored over thousands of records and every claim of a sighting, no matter how outlandish," says Salter. "It was all untrue."

so who are you going to believe, the guy that was there or the guy with a peronal axe to grind?

I read something about how McCain eliminated prison sentences for people withholding information on MIAs on a bill that came through.

I liked Perot's principles hence "Reform" party under my avatar. I read this interview and thought it was an interesting perspective, but Perot discredited himself by not knowing Obama's religion among other things. It just makes him seem out of touch.

On the subject of POW's he certainly deserves respect.

Did you see the movie, "Uncommon Valor"?

It was loosely based on Ross Perot's efforts sending mercenaries in to rescue POWs.

The guy has balls. He ACTED to get the POWs back. He deserves respect for that.

That's too bad, because right and wrong ideas don't change just because an article makes you out to look like you're out of touch.

It was Perot who ultimately exposed the Ds and Rs for what they really are...two sides of the same coin. Perot did himself a disservice in 1992 by dropping out when he was ahead, then coming back in. To backup my previous statement one must only look at how Perot was included in the 1992 elections and how he garnered 19% of the popular vote. The Commission on Presidential Debates changed the rules following that and effectively excluded any third party candidate from participating in debates from that point on. Unfortunately, most of America didn't notice.
