FLASH: Islamic Republic News Agency reports that Ahmadinejad intends to travel to NYC, hopes to speak at UN on Sept. 19 at 7 PM; same day as Bush [whose speech is set for 11:30 AM] and day before Hugo Chavez... Both Ahmadinejad and Chavez will fly from Havana where they will see Castro... Earlier, Ahmadinejad said he was ready for debate with Bush at UN General Assembly... Developing...


it's amazing to me how, in the global spectrum, the US who is at odds with these people still allows them to come to the country to visit. would they let our president just visit their country without bother? i mean, these are people that are challenging/making threats to our president, our country, and other countries, and then come to OUR country to do it!

I'm not sure what you want here? Should we br praised for allowing them to come here to the UN or should we not allow them to come?

it would be viewed as mean-spirited not to allow these guys to visit the UN. As far as the rest of the country, I agree with you.

yes, you're right. the UN is supposedly where all countries in the world can go and be a part of international comraderie. it just happens to be in NYC i guess and we have to allow them. so i see the point. i just don't think if Bush wanted to go to a summit of some sort in their countries that they would allow it. in fact, they would probably try something dirty.

on another similar note, mitt romney has ordered state agenices not to provide security for the former Iranian president as he visits harvard. to be honest, i'm quite surprised as well that harvard would ask a man to speak on the even of 9/11. a bit offensive if you ask me.

I think that's kind of bullshit, we have an interest in providing security for ALL heads of state who visit NYC.. If something happens to him here, and some wackjob gets a shot off and kills him.. what do you think is going to happen?

I guarentee the Iranian people would view us as complicit, regardless of reality. There'd be a call for military action against us in Iraq or Afghanistan or somewhere.. and we'd be forced into a military conflict with yet another country.

We don't have to agree with someone to provide security for them while they're in our country.
