So that means that a married couple will get 1200 dollars, and if they have one kid, 1500 dollars, 2 kids, 1800 dollars.. ??

Individuals who pay income taxes would get up to $600, working couples $1,200 and those couples with children an additional $300 per child under the agreement. Workers who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.

June?! Oh well. So much for doing something right away. All of the economists that said anything were saying that this has to be done right away for it to have the right effect. They are sending them out in 6 months. nice try congress. You suck.

From what I understand, the time problem is with the IRS not being able to cut checks any sooner. They have all thier tax returns coming in from now till April and then they have to cut checks for all of the refunds and now congress is adding on these rebate checks ontop of that.

I don't know why they just don't give everyone a credit for that amount and add it on to your tax rebate. Then the IRS can just send out one check for each person instead of two checks.

because then at the latest most people would get it is May, and a lot would get it in February. They want it as close to the elections as they can get it without making it obvious that they're trying to buy votes with "feel good" money.

It's not a refund, it's a stimulus package meant to get money into the economy. Give money to people who will spend it. If you give money to lower income people, they are more likely to spend it. If you give it to upper income people they will probably save it.

What about the money they want to give to people that do not pay actual income taxes? I read the Democrats want to give a check to anyone who made as low as $3,000 last year.

To me that is "welfare" money not a rebate. It must by definition come from the taxes of some other person. But the Democrat will probably get this in order to make a deal with Bush.

And they want to send checks out so they can make a big deal of you getting a check "from" the Government.
