I STILL don't know who to Vote for

Am I the only person who is supremely disappointed in the field of candidates we have? I mean in such a great country like ours this is the best we got?

Since I am a registered Independent in my State (NY) I can't vote in the Primaries but I want to get an idea of who I will vote for come November. So I have to think of only the people who have a legitimate shot - Obama, Hillary, Romney, Huckabee and McCain...spew

- I like Obama but admitally I know very little about him - I would vote for him, but I need to know what he would actually do first

- Hillary I'm not a fan of but I can't discount her experience and if she went against Romney I would vote for her.

- McCain I was a HUGE fan of in 2000 and thought he should of got the nomination. Now with the BS I am not so sure but if he was against Hillary, my vote is for McCain. Against Obama, I'm not so sure

- Huckabee and Romey are elusive figures for me, I am not quite sure what to make of them, perhaps you guys can shed some light for me?

EDIT - I didn't mention Rudy but if some how he got the nomination I would vote for ANYONE against him

I would just remind you that McCain is similiar to George Bush's father...and recently to his son

Bush of 1988 appointed judges on the court of appeals that made the unanimous ruling in 2004 that stated that any person, including US citizens like yourself, who are declared by anyone associated with the administration of being an "enemy", can be held in a secret prison for life without any chance to even see a lawyer, let alone a trial

That Hamdi case over-turned it...barely...Stevens and Ginsburg are in poor health, if they go...that ruling with the majority one, and you will have no right to counsel or a right to a trial

Also, even if you don't step on the wrong guys toes, your life will lose any right to privacy, hundreds of thousands of women will face back alley abortions and death because they were taken advantage of and can't possibly afford a child, and there is a strong possibility brown v. board would be over-turned, and segregation could return in our schools

There is more, I could go on...but you get the picture and I don't think anyone wants to live in that dystopia

Scary thing is, I don't like anyone either. Right now I'm voting for Ron Paul in the primary but if it comes down to Clinton/McCain, I'll have to vote 3rd party or not vote at all. Clinton will keep us in Iraq, I guarantee it and McCain just has no idea what he'll be doing from an economic stand-point. Mitt Romney, while I completely distrust the guy does know what he wants to do with the economy and that's the only thing I have faith in with this man. O'bama wants to make changes, and he's the most "honest" from when he speaks I think. He doesn't just make you promises on what he's going to do, he tells you, "I'm going to get both parties together and we're going to hammer this out." Just like a democratic process should work. Not it's my way or the highway. But right now our society is changing and our government is trying to rule with an authoritarian strong-hold, when you can hold anyone for prison for whatever reason they see fit, that's a problem. Could you imagine if they had the Patriot Act when communism was at its peak? People would be imprisoned like no ones business, back in the day all that happened was they lost there job. Now it could be a much different thing if someone speaks out against the government.

that's odd...independent in NH means you tell them R/D when you show up and they give you one ballot or the other. Independent here gives *more* choice, it doesn't exclude like in NY.

- Hillary I'm not a fan of but I can't discount her experience
What experience?

- McCain I was a HUGE fan of in 2000 and thought he should of got the nomination. Now with the BS I am not so sure but if he was against Hillary, my vote is for McCain. Against Obama, I'm not so sure
It bothers me that vets won't talk to him.

- Huckabee
No. Too close to religion for me.

and Romey
A year ago I would have said he's my #1. Now, I doubt it.

I believe in Individualism and free markets, so, having a perfect candidate to support fully, I sometimes forget that other people are trying to carefully decide what the lesser evil is.

With the brokered convention, the republican candidate could actually be no one running. it is a possibility they could choose a solid conservative.

i probably won't even up voting for president, they are all progressives.

Here's hoping that if the convention is truly brokered and a new person jumps in, that person is Mark Sanford.

I think the democrats actually have 3 excellent candidates. I'd be happy if any one of them won the election.

As for the GOP... I like McCain, I think he has the right stuff. then maybe Romney. The rest of them are ass clowns.

The more I listen to Obama the more I'm convinced he's not ready to be President

He's rarely substantive in his message, and every time he's asked a hard question or someone brings up something (like his 'present' votes on important things), he spins and weaves instead of practicing that "different kind of politics" he likes to preach about and giving a straight answer

I also think his health care proposal is the worst of the 3 Democrats, if you have a system where people can opt in and out at will, or wait to opt in (and start paying) when there happens to be a significant medical issue, you're creating financial instability by the very nature of this program

I also think that in his effort to 'bring people together' he'd be willing to compromise with Republicans on things that don't need to be compromised on, ie; civil liberties, and so forth

The idea of happy unicorns and pretty rainbows is nice and all, but the Republicans know how to fight hard for the policies they want, and just because he's President doesn't mean they're going to stop doing that.. I would like to see some evidence that he's willing to fight for what he (and the Democrats) believe in instead of placating those who disagree under the guise of bipartisanship

I think Edwards had an opportunity to be the progressive character he's playing today, and failed.. as I think JaJae pointed out in another thread, he's consistently voted against everything he's suddenly for now, that wont play in the general unless it's a flip flopper battle royal with mitt romney or john mccain, then maybe it wouldn't matter so much because they're both just as bad as he is

Honestly, of the Democrats, I think Hillary would be the most centrist, and probably is the most ready to be President, but I don't really like her because her opinions are based on opinion polls for the current week instead of convictions on so many things, and she panders to

I don't really like any of them all that much as politicians, but that said, they're still about a million times better than any Republican candidate who has a shot (sorry RP fans, he has no shot, that should be obvious by now), so, whoever the Democratic nominee is will get my vote over the Republican one...

I don't think we can afford 4 more years of Republican rule with their current line of thinking, or a continuation of Bush policies.

McCain is shown to lead in most of the hypothetical matchups against both Clinton and Obama.

I think they have one decent candidate and all the party machinery are working against him at the moment because he was not scheduled to happen.

It's not about hating Republicans, I have many Republican friends IRL and on the internets..

Unfortunately, their current way of thinking has failed the country in many respects, and they can no longer be trusted to lead the country.. especially since the candidates with a chance have a desire to continue Bush's policies in Iraq, with our foreign policy, with torture, illegal spying, and so forth.

The Democrats have their fault, but they're far more deserving of another chance to get it right than the Republicans are.. they had control of everything, and failed miserably.

Obama really has to start talking some specifics in his speeches instead of these generalities that sound good..

I'm wondering if there's going to be an upset in Florida, and Romney will squeak out a win.. but there's a big vet population in FL, and McCain is obviously going to be their guy

I'm not sure who is worse of those two, they're both pretty bad

IF you want OPEN BORDERS and a bunch of illegal immigrants running amok, then choose any Democrat you want to.
If you want illegal immigrants running all over the place and an OLD ZOMBIE for president, choose Republican McCain who is ready for the funny farm.
IF YOU WANT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION TO STOP AND YOU WANT SOME CONTROL OVER THE LACK OF BORDER SECURITY, CHOOSE ROMNEY OR PAUL. Its that simple.

McCain is the candiate most in check with what the majority of Americans want, even if they don't know it yet (Iraq, immigration)

This catches a lot of flak from his party, but he is used to it both literally and figuratively. He wears it as a badge of honor and I belive will continue what he thinks is best for this country as President.

PS. vote McCain!
