But haven't we already said that those prices have remained stagnant after inflation?

The #1 thing I can think of that has had a major price shift (after inflation) is anything energy related, especially relating to gas. But the reasons for that are obvious. Sadly, that alone increases all of our costs of living substantially, so that while everything else seems to be following inflation, energy prices screw us all.

But your bologna and milk were produced/packaged and transported differently, using different technology than was used before which makes it last longer and get to where its going faster.

Your phone service is NOT exactly the same. You may pick up a phone and hear the same dial-tone as you did 2 decades ago, but the infrastructure of the phone industry is quite a bit different than it was 15-20 years ago. Calls are clearer, cordless handsets have better range and reception, etc.

i wasn't born in 1970...again you insist on going back all these decades to the 50s etc because the recent numbers just aren't there to prove your case

Or maybe because increases in quality of life build up over extended periods of time? I'm sure people living in 1985 didn't feel they were too far ahead of people living in 1970 in terms of quality of life and standard of living, but they damn well knew they were better off than people living in 1950.

It's more than just "not the majority" of business graduates make that much money...it's more like making that salary straight out of college, regardless of where you go to school, is like getting into the NBA straight out of high school.

Either that or your friend is lying to you...he's claiming, straight out of college, to make almost double the average pay of Harvard MBAs, which are from the number 1 business school in the entire country with a degree more advanced than his and with more experience.

Something is not adding up here. Why would they hire your friend for 200K when they could hire someone with more education, more experience, from a better school, pay that person less than your friend, and still have that reduced pay be in the very top of what his fellow Harvard MBA grads are earning?

i gave you two examples of people i know. it's ok if you dont' want to believe me.

you're also giving average numbers, which means there are some higher and some lower. they're obviously in the higher range

He is ONE person. Every indicator shows a strong economy and fantastic unemployment. It's almost to the point where every person that needs a job has one (I beleive that point is 4%). He is one of the only people that constantly fights the good news. And there is one reason. He CAN NOT let good news stand on it's own. He HAS to shoot it down to get the Democrats attention so he can get a job. He's already been passed over once, he is making sure it doesn't happen again.

There is no one even close to as qualified as he is...like I said he's an academic not a hack

every indicator? we had Washington post articles talking about stagnant wages, then how people not looking for jobs, or how the unemployment ratings are inaccurate and outdated in todays society

I don't think the issue is that we don't think the economy is strong.. We understand that the overall economy is still cranking away at a good pace.. The question we are asking, and the issue that we would like someone to address is the growing gap between the rich and the poor. More and more wealth is being concentrated at the top. The rich have more than they ever have had before and there is less money to go around for the rest of us. The middle class is being squeezed. Thier buying power has decreased from where it was 30 years ago. You all keep arguing that it's not happening and the numbers prove that it is.

He is absolutely a hack. He spins numbers to make sure they make the republicans look bad and the dems good. He's wanting a job. So he HAS to do this.

He has fame, respectability, two well paid jobs, academic praise, awards, etc the list goes on and on

Saying he is writing for a job is pure speculation

This is flat wrong and an ignorant statement. There is not a finate amount of money where if someone gets more, someone else gets less. Just because someone starts a business and becomes rich, does not mean that a bunch of people just became poor. More likely, it means more people just got jobs because of it.
