The #1 thing I can think of that has had a major price shift (after inflation) is anything energy related, especially relating to gas. But the reasons for that are obvious. Sadly, that alone increases all of our costs of living substantially, so that while everything else seems to be following inflation, energy prices screw us all.

Your phone service is NOT exactly the same. You may pick up a phone and hear the same dial-tone as you did 2 decades ago, but the infrastructure of the phone industry is quite a bit different than it was 15-20 years ago. Calls are clearer, cordless handsets have better range and reception, etc.

| Or maybe because increases in quality of life build up over extended periods of time? I'm sure people living in 1985 didn't feel they were too far ahead of people living in 1970 in terms of quality of life and standard of living, but they damn well knew they were better off than people living in 1950. | ||||

Something is not adding up here. Why would they hire your friend for 200K when they could hire someone with more education, more experience, from a better school, pay that person less than your friend, and still have that reduced pay be in the very top of what his fellow Harvard MBA grads are earning?

| He is ONE person. Every indicator shows a strong economy and fantastic unemployment. It's almost to the point where every person that needs a job has one (I beleive that point is 4%). He is one of the only people that constantly fights the good news. And there is one reason. He CAN NOT let good news stand on it's own. He HAS to shoot it down to get the Democrats attention so he can get a job. He's already been passed over once, he is making sure it doesn't happen again. | ||||

The rich have more than they ever have had before and there is less money to go around for the rest of us. The middle class is being squeezed. Thier buying power has decreased from where it was 30 years ago. You all keep arguing that it's not happening and the numbers prove that it is.

| This is flat wrong and an ignorant statement. There is not a finate amount of money where if someone gets more, someone else gets less. Just because someone starts a business and becomes rich, does not mean that a bunch of people just became poor. More likely, it means more people just got jobs because of it. | ||||
