In the weeks immediately after the bombing, I believe the last thing that we should do was turn tail and leave. Yet the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics forced us to rethink our policy there. If that policy had changed towards more of a neutral position and neutrality, those 241 marines would be alive today.
I find it ironic that all the presidential candidates who invoke Reagan forget this little comment from their hero...

ib 9/11 changed everything bro

Did anyone actually suggest that at the time?

Was it considered an incident that was part of a larger war of terror against our people and interests all over the ME?

Because I really doubt it. He simply removed our people from more immediate harm. Did anyone understand then that it was the beggining of more and more attacks that would lead to 9/11? Not at all. That came nearly two decades too late!

We were attacked - it was an act of war and he ran with his tail between his legs. And if he was as forward looking as people claim, he would of seen that extremist groups like that could disrupt the ME enough to cause oil problems and crises. We've gone to war for much less - he cut and ran

No, no, no, no, no. This is Ronald Q (or whatever) Reagan we're talking about here. Not some wishy washy liberal peace monger.

Ronald Reagan doesn't retreat. He strategically shifts his forces in the direction away from his enemies.

In all seriousness though, I think if hadn't been fucking around there for so long in the first place it would have been a non issue, forcing ourselves and our way of life on people who don't want it is going to cause problems. It's unfortunate the current crop of Reagan lovers aren't able to see that.
