A member of the "Jena Six" accused of being in a fight at Hebron High School in Carrollton was released from jail Thursday morning, according to Denton County jail records.

Police said they arrested Bryant Purvis, 19, who is a student at the school, after a fight broke out Wednesday.

Dean Tackett, a Lewisville school district spokesman, confirmed Thursday morning that an assault took place at the school, but did not have details on the incident.

Mr. Purvis' mother, Tina Jones, told an Alexandria, La.-newspaper that her son was upset a fellow student had vandalized his car.

Ms. Jones told the Town Talk that when her son returned from a basketball game Tuesday evening, he found that his passenger-side tires were flat. On Wednesday, he learned who may have vandalized his car. He went to the other student, "grabbed him by the collar and pushed his head on the table, talking to him," she said.

According to county jail records, Mr. Purvis was released on a $1,000 bond at about 1:30 a.m. He was charged with assault causing bodily injury. If convicted, Mr. Purvis could face up to a year in jail.

Ms. Jones also said she has learned from the school principal that her son will be suspended for three days and face a 10-day in-school suspension.

"I'm very upset right now with this situation. We are really, really going through a lot already with the Jena Six. I wish this had never happened. But it is what it is, and now we have to deal with it," she told the Town Talk.

Jena is the small Louisiana town that made national headlines after six African-American teens were accused of assaulting a white classmate in December 2006. Ms. Jones said that after the [Jena 6] incident, she sent her son to Texas to live with his uncle, Jason Hatcher, a Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman.

In September, thousands marched through Jena, La., in support of the teens.

No matter what ACTUALLY happened with the Jena 6 thing, you'd think the dumbass would learn to keep a low profile.

It would be interesting to know whether that person actually slashed his tires or not. Doesn't make what he did right, but it would make it a lot more understandable in my personal eyes

If he were any ordinary teenager I'd agree, but you've got to think with all the shit he has been through that he'd figure out it is probably best not to make a spectacle of himself.

Yea, Hebron High School. It's actually one of the nicer areas around here too, none of Carrollton is "ghetto" really, lots of Cowboys players (like his Uncle), Stars players, and Mavs players live in the area.

white kid allegedly hung noose from tree, superintendent allegedly told black kids he would ruin them if they made a stink, 6 black kids allegedly beat up a white kid, 6 black kids get suspended, national press latches on and there are rallies in Jena about the alleged racism.

I don't know 100% of the details, but that covers it in a nutshell I think.

Basically correct except it was the town or county prosecutor that told the kids he would ruin them

Well, the big stink wasn't the kids getting suspended it was them being charged with attempted murder. But there is also significant debate over the the comments and claims of racism.

No, it's one of the "Jena 6" ... one of the 6 black kids that beat up the white kid and got threatened with trumped up charges.

I grew up in Carrollton.. It sure has changed a lot.. It's not as nice as I remember it

Hebron High School is more out towards Plano though isn't it?

But yeah, not keeping a low profile is pretty stupid.
