It is too true that economic freedom breeds political freedom such that we have power independent of government. But to what extent? Economic freedom has always created a class of power brokers that have influence over the political process and can easily reverse the new political freedom. It's what is happing now - like everything there should be a balance, one to check the other. Once you make the political process slaves to economic policy (whether it be capitalism, communism, socialism etc) what else can you expect but eventual oppression of political freedom to the whims of those that hold strong economic power?
