What is a "True Conservative"? I understand the literal meaning, but no longer see a correlation in the political sense as equated to the Republican party.

I'm not voting for any Democrat candidates. Not impressed with any Republicans. And I don't know of any third-parties running.

have conservative values EVER been represented in such a poor fashion for the past 200 years?

I don't think Democratic values have ever been represented in such a poor fashion either... it's just they're willing to go along with it because there's no third party popping up for them to switch over to.

Republicans are not holding on to their core values and they're losing members.

Democrats are not holding on to their core values either. It's funny, when the GOP does something against their beleifs and what would have been a Democratic ideal, they're scrutinized by the Democrats. You'd think the Dems would love the current administration with their big government, spending etc. I guess they only like that stuff when they get to do it themselves.

In either case, both parties are messed up. Republicans more so, but it's strange to see how many people are disgruntled with the Republican party in comparison to the Democratic party.

I myself consider myself an old school Democrat with fiscal and personal responsibility thrown in. The current Democratic party is just as much of a joke to me as the current Republican party. The Dems threw me away long before the GOP abandoned its base. The Democrats have gotten far too extreme. It's almost as if they'll be a socialist party within the next decade.

I think there are 2 types of big spenders - those that want it for defense (or even offense aka neo-con), and those that want it for a big govt welfare state (like most of modern Europe)

the Bush admin has been mostly the first kind, but have been unable to significantly curb domestic spending, and have even increased it in some cases, like the prescription drug bill

and I agree with you, the Democratic party is in bad shape too

if there was ever a big niche for a 3rd party to fill, this is the time

I find it sad that there are people out there with views like this.
"well democrats like to spend money, they must love all the money we are spending to bomb brown people".

Please. Seeing your views on this forum I don't see how you ever thought you were a democrat.

"Democrat with fiscal and personal responsibility thrown in"

Get in line. There are tons of us who can say that. Just because the only democrats you recognize are the nutjob extremists, doesn't make them all that way. There are plenty of good ones out there that just don't get any press on FNN which is where you seem to parrot your talking points from.

I do, which is why I'm voting for an opposition party. Hopefully that'll lead to balance in Washington

Yeah. Lets see. Republican President. Republican Senate. Republican House.

I can see where you got the idea that we still have balance somehow.

Well, maybe because this GOP style "big government" is all about helping the wealthy, rather than trying to do right by the majority of American people.

The fair tax system just used a 20-something percent federal sales tax I thought and had no loopholes?

I like flat tax as well.
