Flat tax is by far the best plan with the same personal exemptions for EVERYONE and no more ridiculous write offs and loopholes.

Would exemptions be allowed with a Flat tax? If you have exemptions then you are still going to need the IRS.

I don't think so.

Back in '03 and '04, alot of true conservatives were saying that we really only have 1 party in America. We have Socialist Party A and Socialist Party B. The Democrats (A) were driving 80mph towards the edge of a cliff. The Republicans (B) were driving 55mph towards the edge of a cliff.

Now, at least to me, it appears the Republicans are heading towards the edge of the cliff at 150mph.

I just can't bring myself to vote for Democrats. The only thing I like about them is the personal freedoms that they advocate, but hate that they don't advocate personal responsiblity along with it.

I hope Republicans lose Congress so that we have gridlock, but I don't want Democrats having so much power that they can propagate their plans either. I just want inaction.

With Bush at the helm there's going to be gridlock even if they win back Congress, the benefit is that they'll be able to begin investigations into Bush's illegal activities.. and hopefully bring Congress back to being a counterbalance against the President's kingly "Congressional intent? What's that, I've only heard of signing statements " bullshit that's been going on.. which is good for everyone, conservative and liberal alike.

Since you consider yourself a Libertarian I'm really suprised you'd prefer not to vote rather than help bring back some amount of balance in government for the next 2 years when we have another Presidential election.

Because, while I am a fan of libertarianism, I don't agree with voting for the lesser of two evils. I only vote FOR someone; not AGAINST someone else. So, unless I see someone I like, I won't be voting.

The right to vote and your responsibility as a citizen to vote, ie government of the people, isnt so simple that you can just drop out of the system completely and decide not to vote simply because you cant vote FOR something. A vote is a vote.

If you cant vote FOR something, you can still vote AGAINST something. Even if it boils down to the lesser of 2 evils. By going with the lesser you decrease the power of the greater.

I have no vote available if I want to vote against both Republicans and Democrats.

No, it doesn't. Alot of congressional races only have a republican or democrat option.

You don't think they're the same thing?

You can be voting for some balance in Washington, some accountability for the President by voting for the Democrats, while at the same time voting against the policies that Republicans have in place that have completely abandoned conservatism.

I think they can be the same thing.

For example, I voted for Peroutka (of the Constitution Party) in '04. I voted for him, while at the same time, voted against Bush. However, I did not throw a vote towards Kerry, because that would have only been a vote against Bush, and not for Kerry. Which is why I didn't vote for Kerry. Although Peroutka had no chance of winning, I vote for principles over "lesser of two evils."

Bottom line is one of those two people is going to be elected though, if there's no third party on the ballot, voting for the person who's going to most adequately represent your ideals is a better solution when faced with 2 more years of the same stuff we've seen for the last 6.

While that's true, Democrats do not represent me more adequately than Republicans.

While Democrats will possibly keep Bush in check, and hopefully get us out of Iraq, they will also push for things like abortion, "civil rights", welfare, health care, and other modern liberal ideas. I can't vote for people like that.

Every serious flat tax proposal has personal exemptions.

I'd really like to hear how Democrats are going to "push for abortion"

also, how any of those other things are going to get done with Bush's veto pen and the GOP's filibuster ability in the Senate

You're going to try to honestly argue that Democrats aren't more pro-choice than Republicans?

So you don't think anything the Democrats want to do will be accomplished? Then why are you hoping they take over if nothing will be done?

Show me a piece of pro-abortion legislation proposed by democrats...lets say...ever?

and anyway, i hope they take over so there is some OVER SIGHT and they can force votes to put republicans in uncomfortable positions (ie Rumsfeld no confidence, should we pull out in the next 10 years...100 years, should the president come before congress before launching any new wars against UN recognized nations)

FOCA is the only "pro-abortion" law i've ever heard of, and it failed, it never passed and it was sponsored by several Republicans
