| Well THAT was interesting v. justheardKarlRovespeakatpenn He was actually kind of endearing, at least in the beginning when it was just him and the moderator speaking. He toned down the fearmongering "us against the enemy" shit for most of it, until the Q&A started The first moron who ran up to ask him a question said "I think you are a cancer on this nation, and your fearmongering and fascist tactics have so violated our civil liberties that I think you should be impeached To which Rove responded: "Do you feel better about yourself now?" | :roflw: Honestly, I was happy with the choice. I like bringing controversial political figures to campus; it gives an air of respectability to the speaker series, and, honestly, it's fun watching people get all riled up. That said, allowing an open Q&A for a half hour at the end was just stupid. It was nothing but the same old daggers being thrown at him, and the same old responses. I didn't want to hear about why we went into Iraq and why the President can wiretap foreign communications. I wanted to hear things like, say, "Mr. Rove, I think it's fair to say that the so-called "Gingrich coalition" of socially-minded conservatives, fiscally-minded conservatives, and the religious right has become increasingly fractured as the Republican party's base in this election cycle. Do you think that these groups are finally separating as a functional body, and, if so,how would you re-unite them in time to win the White House in November? Which is exactly what I had planned to ask had I run to the microphone in time....only got through two of the five people in front of me ![]() edit: | ||||

| I would like to hear Rove speak. Although I don't agree with him most of the time, he's clearly a very intelligent guy and has had an inside view of nearly everything that has gone on in the past few years at the white house. It's a shame people will come and waste everyone's time with stupid questions. | ||||

They then framed the foreign policy as an us vs them sort of scenerio, scared everyone with spectors of terrorist attacks and used it to rally people behind the flag, calling anyone who disagreed a commie liberal who hates america. It worked really well for a while but eventually people started getting sick of it. They got sick of the wedge issues that don't REALLY matter. They got sick of the fear mongering and eventually rejected what the GOP was selling. Last edited by WickedLou9; 02-21-2008 at 10:24 AM. | ||||

| ' Him and Cheney. Watching Cheney debate a few years ago was an awesome experience. It was a combination of watching the bad guy from a cartoon mixed with a ridiculous depth of knowledge and ability to convey that knowledge. If Cheney were raised as a more altruistic individual, he could surely have been one of the greatest leaders this country has ever known. | ||||
