Hillary Co-Sponsors Bill To Bring Troops Home

And Barack isn't one of the co-sponsors. Some might point out that he's been busy campaigning, but OTOH Hillary Clinton found time to be a co-sponsor of the bill.

She's pulling out all the vote-whoring stops, huh?

Why isn't her campaign slogan "Vote for me and I'll give you an iPod"?

I don't really agree with this bill and I'm a democrat. I'm against the war but at the same time I recognize that you can't just pull everyone out and go home. We fucked up life enough for those people already. If we pull out life will get alot worse for them. That's not fair for them. We broke it, we bought it. HIllary knows that this law won't make it in. If it passes, Bush will Veto is and they won't have a big enough majority to get it through. She is going to use this as a campaign speech talking point.

This was nothing more than a media showcase for the co-sponsors so they could say they did it. Here is the results of this bill...

Dems Yank Troop Withdrawal Bill From Senate Floor, By Martin Kady II - CBS News
(The Politico) For two days, anti-war Democrats have traded punches with Republicans over the Iraq war in a debate that could have been held any time in the past few years.

Little new was said in the past two days, but thanks to Republican procedural maneuvers, the Senate was forced to debate a doomed Iraq troop withdrawal bill proposed by Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.). Republicans boasted that they wanted to have a debate to highlight recent successes in Iraq.

The issue will quietly fade away this evening from the Senate when Democrats pull the bill and move on to another Iraq related measure _ which would simply force President Bush to set a global strategy for defeating al Qaeda.
They brought it up thinking the GOP would attempt to block it as usual. Instead the GOP said, fine let's push this further and debate this bill so they could start talking about the "progresses" in Iraq. At that point the Democrats said, oh fuck that, and pulled their own bill.

Yeah it was just a political ploy. Just like the vote on flag burning that they have every few years.

Fair Arguments, but...

...some might say that it's good to stand up for what you believe in even if the odds are against you all along. When I marched in an anti-war protest I didn't expect our troops to be immediately withdrawn from Iraq, but nonetheless, I and about 5,000 other Seattlelites stood up for what we believed in by marching. Similarly, some might say that it's a virtue for Hillary to stand up in opposition to the war even if the bill had little chance of passing.

But that's the thing. They didn't stand up for anything. They stood down. They promoted the bill for superficial reasons and when it came time to actually make a stand they stood down. It's a good thing Obama didn't put his name on this and associate himself with this. I also find it interesting Hillary has time to co-sponsor bills, but doesn't have time to call her accountant and release her tax records like every other candidate has had no problems doing.

It's the least (and I really mean least) she can do after writing the Bush administration a blank check that started the war.

If you're implying that co-sponsoring this bill is the only anti-war action that she's done since the war started, then you're wrong. She's voted for several important troop redeployment bills:

Project Vote Smart - Senator Hillary Clinton on HR 4156 - Supplemental Appropriations for the Department of Defense and Timeline for Withdrawal from Iraq

Project Vote Smart - Senator Hillary Clinton on S Amdt 2898 - Iraq Troop Reduction Amendment

Project Vote Smart - Senator Hillary Clinton on S Amdt 2087 - Iraq Troop Reduction

She has done far more to promote and advance the war than most Democrats and only recently has she started playing these political games on superficial bills.

Seems to me Obama was smart in not signing this bill. He knew there was no teeth behind it. Words without any intention of action. Waste of time and taxpayer money. A useless gesture that meant nothing when it became time to put it in action. She's as pathetic as she has ever been.

Who says he was even invited to co-sign it? Looking at the co-sponsors I have a feeling Obama was never asked. It's also telling of Clinton supporters using this bill as a means to prop Hillary over Obama. Where was Hillary when this bill was being debated on? I haven't heard anything about her being there to debate this bill. A bunch of ultra-libs probably called her up and said something along the lines of "Hey, we're gonna promote an Iraq pull-out bill. The Republicans will no doubt block it, but we can use it for political purposes in the future. You want in on this?" And she said yes. When the Republicans said, "Ok, let's let this bill progress it's natural course" the Dems said "oh fuck that" and pulled it.

This is an embarrassment to the Democrats and the people who sponsored it.

Agreed. Their new motto: DNC - Symbolism over Substance!

and this is why Democrats cannot be trusted with national security issues. They have no real stances or beliefs, they just play politics.
