Former GOP Speaker Denny Hastert loses heavy GOP seat to the (D) in special election

CHICAGO - Democrat Bill Foster has snatched former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's congressional seat in a closely watched special election that gave the longtime Republican district to the Democrats.

Foster has won 52 percent of the vote compared to 48 percent for Republican Jim Oberweis with 556 of 568 precincts reporting.
Dem. wins election to fill Hastert seat - Yahoo! News

This is huge, it looks like the NRCC (it's incharge of electing/re-electing Republicans in the House) is in total chaos, they might even fire the head of the NRCC...and this in the middle of 2008 planning and after McCain has locked up the nomination

This district is 7+R, as shown it gave 56%+ to Bush in 2004, and the Democrat only got 40% here and he was a very well known Democrat (Laesch) in 2006 with the big blue wave

That jumped to 52%+ for the Democrat, once you get to 4 points you can't really call it a nail-biter or really all that close

So, everyone please give a warm welcome to the newest member of the house, replacing disgraced but ultra-powerful Republican Denny Hastert with new fighting Dem, Rep. Bill Foster

If you think my analysis is too "partisan" check out RedState's reaction IL14 Special Election Coverage (Dems Gaining A Seat) | Redstate

The Republicans had a decent candidate and everyone I know from N. IL has said it's a really Republican area to this day, and Bill Foster was a moveon.org liberal...these are the kind of seats only won by really untraditional democrats or "bush-dog"/blue dog candidates

Bad bad news for the GOP

It'll be interesting to see an All Democratic controlling government, if they screw up the next 4 years, don't expect a Dem Pres for a long time.
