Sorry, but he didn't distance himself enough. He has know the guy for what, 20 years? He has been his "spiritual advisory" yet Obama didn't know of this hate speech but finds it offensive? Yeah, that dog don't hunt.

You can't have someone who is your mentor going around calling whites evil and claiming the US deserved 9/11. It just doesn't fly, like it or not. And you can't claim your "mentor" didn't rub off on you.

He can say as many pretty words as he wants, when it comes down to it, even if he can clinch the Democratic ticket the general is gone now. Couple this with his wife and things don't come out well.

Want to bet? You can't have someone who is your mentor calling whites evil when they are the largest voting block. It just doesn't work out for you. As much as people want to see something fresh (much of his success comes from this), it just isn't good.

This is detrimental to his campaign and could really be the end of it. He didn't do enough to run from this guy.

I don't really think we'll know anything until after the PA primary. If he can pull a rabbit out of his hat and win PA, then I think he'll be fine. He can get his national campaign rolling and start focusing on November, distancing himself from all the Hillary bickering and race talk.

If she wins PA by a decent margin as is projected, it's just going to keep getting worse and worse. This shit is going to keep being dragged out until the convention, and both of their campaigns will suffer. Neither of them will have a chance at that point....might as well get ready for Bush v2.0, or so McCain has become.

As I recall, she wrote her thesis on institutional blocks in normally-considered "elite" parts of American society furthering the placement of black Americans in relative poverty compared to whites.

Whether that's racist or not is up for debate. It's academia and seems to have some basis in fact given a great deal of sociological research, but I suppose it could be seen as racist from another angle. It's about how you perceive the situation, I think.

If he wins, I think it's safe to say he'll win the general

PA is full of conservative working class white democrats...people inclined to vote McCain after viewing Rev. Wright's speeches...or heck just a black candidate

But it is how middle America views it and it won't be good.

I thought it was a really nice speech, but like I feel after seeing many of them, they're very eloquent, but speak in very broad, vague, generalized, whatever use adjective you want, terms..

It's great that he can say all of it well, but I don't know how he plans to accomplish any of it. One of the lines in there kinda sums up how I feel about the Obamania that's swept the country..

There's nothing really different there, no politician tells us our kids can't learn, or that we shouldn't focus on them. Where's the substance here? Where's the specifics about any of it?

Sure it sounds great, but give me one specific plan you have on how to address any of the things you talked about in this marvelous speech.

I also have to agree he didn't run far enough away from this guy to help himself, I don't really think Wright was entirely wrong about some of what he said, even if I don't necessarily agree with the way he said it.. but who here really thinks the Republican's aren't going to be able to use this VERY effectively in the fall to turn people out?

His favorable ratings are dropping fast.

I think this speech needed to be said, and will help put the campaign back on track, but these issues are not going away like magic with a feel good "healing the nation" session. I think Dick Morris got it right. Obama does not share these views, but he did pick this pastor and this church to get his political bonfides in the Chicago Black community and now he has trouble backing away from it.
