Michigan and Florida should comprise their DNC delegates of wounded Iraq War veterans

How fucking cruel would that look if the party tried not to seat them?

PoliticalWire just ran something about Michigan delaying their delegation selection...because they don't want to be declared invalid right away...I was thinking of one of the few tricks they could do to make it nearly impossible for them to be ignored

I really don't know that it was a 'fair' process since the campaigns weren't able to spend time talking to the citizens of those states (at least in FL, not 100% positive on Michigan) to advocate for their campaigns

Obama always does better the more time he spends places, because he's so likable

That said, I think they should fight to be seated because it makes sense that two states that are very important in the general-election should have primaries as early as possible and play a bigger role in the selection process than Iowa or New Hampshire

But, since the broke party rules, it should be up to the party to decide what to do with it.. I don't like the idea of the courts involved.

I wouldn't mind the super delegates getting to vote in those states without a revote. But without a revote it wouldn't really be fair. And to be honest Hillary isn't too worried about the delegates in those states as much as she wants the votes. She would pick up very few delegates, but it would help her in the popular vote which would help her in the convention. Obama has said he would allow revotes publicly, but I bet privately he's going to try to stop it.

So I don't think Obama would cry foul to the super delegates being seated without a revote. But anything beyond that is likely to end up in the courts as motz has said. These states wouldn't change the outcome of the delegate counts all that much, but with these states Hillary has a chance of winning back the popular vote (a long shot, but still a chance). That's the major issue with the state I think and that's what will have the greatest impact.

I don't think the state should use guilt trips or other means to circumvent the party rules. I think they should be a little more professional than that. The other issue is if the party allows a change in party rules this late in the game, it will likely throw the final results into the courts if these states change the outcome of the election.

I thought the superdelegates got a vote anyway, it was just the pledged delegates that came as a result of the primaries that didn't?

If true, that's like the ultimate slap in the face to those (very important in the general) voters.. that their voices wont count, but their elected officials will, and they aren't bound by the consensus of the state

I'm not sure actually. I'll have to look that up. You're probably right. It wouldn't make much sense to restrict them.

2008 Democratic Convention Watch: Superdelegate from Maine moves to Florida - Superdelegate total now 794

Even as a Distinguished Party Leader, if a superdelegate is from Florida or Michigan they do not get a vote.

He's not official but I'll assume he did his homework before writing that. In other words, I read it on the internet so it must be true.

I thought I had heard it elsewhere as well. But I couldn't find a source.
