that makes more sense than my guesses

If you live in the middle of nowhere, of course expensive "city services" are going to seem like a waste if you don't benefit from them.

They do exist? How many are there? I would hazard a guess and say that there is like one, and it's in a very rich area.

Of course they exist.

They existed long before tax-funded departments and still exist to this day.

You actually think that a private fire company is a good idea? That poor people should burn while rich people get the best fire department that money can buy? Morally you have no problems with that?

You're confusing capitalism with something else.

Capitalism makes the lives of the poor better off, not worse off.

Compare this to non-capitalist societies, where the few hold the riches and oppress the poor. Capitalism benefits everyone, and it certainly benefits the poor and middle class.

Indeed, capitalism helps the poor and middle to rise up the economic ladder and become rich, something no other economic system does to the degree that capitalism does it.

Slavery has nothing to do with capitalism.

hmm...im going to have to "disagree"

an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, esp. as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth.

people both invested in slave ships, and owned them as they made money...

But those who are poor get left to die. Quite literally. There is no way around it. In a system where resource allocation is achieved by ones ability to pay, those with the means get the best of whatever it is, and those without means get nothing. In many instances you are correct, capitalism does help, but this is not one of them. In matters of life and death I am not OK with letting monetary valuation determine who lives and who dies.

Disagree all you want, slavery is not something inherent within capitalism.

It's existed in multiple economic systems.

Wrong again. Those are poor get left to work in a free society and work their way up the economic ladder or they rely on free charity.

And, amazingly enough, to liberals disdain, human charity is a much stronger and efficient force than government redistribution of wealth.
