I can't think of a better example off the top of my head, but it really fucks kids up when the teacher does shit like this:
student1: abortion stops a beating heart
teacher (to stu1): but outlawing abortion means the govt has control of a woman's body
student2: yeah, keep your laws off my body!
teacher (to stu2): Why should a woman have the right to kill a unique and independent life?
The teacher defended both sides......it seriously fucks with kids' heads when they think the teacher supports something only to later find out it was just a question, not a show of support.

They were all shut out, and it was "ok let's hear a left opinion, okay now lets hear the republican"...so basically no matter what, the GOP guy got to be heard, whether he was moderate or radical, but many left-of-center people weren't able to add their input because "we can't get too off-track...we have to finish this material" which is true...but I still always thought...unfair because I always wanted to hear more from the different shades of left-of-center people
That seems weird then. Why would the prof be CALLING for a Republican opinion? In classes I've been in (the few that were setup with material that garnered descent and staged in a way that promoted discussion) it just went by who raised their hand. If the guy was Republican or Democrat didn't matter, what mattered is that they had something to add to the conversation. You'd think one guy adding to the conversation intelligently would cause people with similar ideas to feel represented and have little to nothing more to add. If the prof kept going back to the SAME guy b/c he was the only one representing the Republican side of an argument, then the prof isn't being fair in how he allows people to speak.

This is the best way to teach thinking skills, imo, because it creates discussion by both sides and forces both sides to think critically about their own position while at the same time not revealing the teacher's personal views.

It can be hard to pull off though, I've only really ever had one teacher that could do it consistently.

You sound like one of those bitter, self-hating PPE majors who constructs, in your mind, a monumental hate of Wharton and everything it stands for, as a defense mechanism to reconcile with yourself the fact that your GPA was, and will never be, high enough to transfer in.

I used to be one of those people too

edit: The misallocation of resources, the limited jobs open to you when you take a lot of the same classes, the alumni network, and the general "we're better and wealthier than you" attitude makes it an easy target to despise

You are the perfect liberal!

Just watch out for government health care. If they take over, doctors won't be so well compensated and you might have to get a job that pays.

Is it wrong that I lose respect for people who are content to be stay-at-home moms and dads?

I think it's a noble choice to stay at home and forgo wages if the choice is made out of a desire to raise good kids rather than laziness. If the choice is made out of laziness, then ya I tend to agree with you.

Define "screwed up"

And who chooses who stays home with the kids if one parent has to, in your conception?

JUG, lol. Oh, good times. I think I had like 18 units when I graduated. Most of my friends had none, but a few were well up into the hundreds

Either way it certainly served me well, so I don't really have anything to complain about.

I see it the opposite.
My ambition is to raise a child who doesn't feel like they are an accessory or some kind of burden. I want him in a stable environment where he knows he's loved.

I want to instill my values into him, not have some stranger teach him god knows what it for a fee.
