so back on topic we played this game last week and got the final results:
FISH BANKS, LTD
FISH BANKS, LTD. A group role-playing simulation, assisted by one microcomputer, designed to improve environmental understanding and apply communication, group problem solving, and higher order thinking skills.

Audience Approved by PEP for grades 9-12 and college students.

Description FISH BANKS, LTD. creates profound insights into how depletion of natural resources can result from the interaction of ecological, economic, corporate, and psychological forces. It conveys factual knowledge about a major environmental issue and motivates students to be informed and effective citizens.

The FISH BANKS, LTD. simulation is a group process involving analytic reasoning, negotiation, and collective decision making. As an interdisciplinary model it provides linkages to environmental science, biology, economics, social studies, and mathematics. One teacher can run the program with 5-50 students. There are many teacher-selected extensions of this engaging exercise. A microcomputer is used by the teacher to analyze the effects of student decisions and produce yearly reports on corporate profitability and productivity of the fishery. Typically, role playing extends over six to ten cycles (years) and debriefing begins when teams realize the long-term consequences of short-term strategies. Many high school and college educators use FISH BANKS, LTD. to introduce systems thinking and systems dynamics modeling. FISH BANKS, LTD. helps students achieve National Goals for Education 3 and 5.

Archived: FISH BANKS, LTD

And for the results

these clowns caught every single fish and completely disregarded "sustainable" fishing

they were so pissed when my team won and then double pissed when the professor told them that they caught every fish

Now for an LOLdate

As part of this class we take field trips to "green" companies and towns. There is a town about 30 minutes away that is talking about putting in windmills are we are going to meet the "green" team.

I was joking before the class with some of my friends that I would be a real asshole if I mentioned the carbon footprint that would be created with 30 people driving 60 round trip to look at some windmills. I got beaten to the punch by kids that were actually upset by this The professor didn't know what to say other than those that are concerned should car pool.

I am not excusing your over the top professor, who obviously has an agenda other than educating students, but there is as much evidence for global warming as there is for the idea that the earth is not flat.

the evidence for the world is not flat is overwhelming from Columbus to Apollo, we know that the world is not flat.

the evidence for global climate change is nowhere close to this level.

I wasn't try to start up the debate. We have enough threads on this that essentially go

"my expert says"
"well my expert says..."
"but your expert took money from..."
"so? your expert's credentials are..."
"oh yeah, well that's better than ...."
(50 more posts like that, then)

Not really. The evidence for global climate change is overwhelming to the point of being a scientific fact.

Whether the effects are "permanent", and the effect humans have had in the process, is still up for debate. But the existence of global warming is irrefutable.

scientific theories do not become facts by consenus.

The earth is getting warmer is some places, that is a measureable but everything else is up for debate.

The earth, on average, is getting warmer. Fact.

Seems like a pretty obvious upward trend, doesn't it?

are you ignoring the "fact" that during the 1800s the earth was going through a cooling period? maybe this is warming up after it cooled. still doesn't prove anything.

check out this interesting article. "since 1895, the New York Times has warned of four separate climate changes."

"The media have warned about impending climate doom four different times in the last 100 years. Only they can’t decide if mankind will die from warming or cooling."

What does on average mean? Where do you start the trend? During the past decade the earth has cooled. Is that a trend? The earth was getting warmer, but it really hasn't for some time now. It's leveled off despite increased CO2, nobody knows why.

This is the real answer for global warming, I mean global climate change. We don't really know what is going on. And even if we cut our carbon footprint to 0.0, we aren't sure what would happen.
