Environmentalism is an alternative reality

So I am wrapping up my Undergrad degree and one of the last checks in the box is an environmental and society class, that I have been trying to avoid for years. It is a complete indoctrination in a class of mostly freshmen. The professor presents alternative economic graphs to counter everything learned in any econ class. I maintained a vow of silence, just thinking less than two months until I walk across the stage.

I couldn't take it any more when he assigned reading about the "Shepherds of the Seas", a group of vigilantes that go after boats that are fishing illegally. They actually try to sink the the ships and kill the fisherman abroad. The professor presented this group and its leader as a hero, and then I took him to task about how vigilantism does not work in a civilised society.

I mentioned how the ELF is a criminal organization, and how they do more environmental damage when they burn new houses and cars. So how does he respond, over the weekend he posts with a op/ed about how ELF isn't that bad and how the big bad government over prosecuted them as mandatory reading.


I cannot wait to be done with this and I can't believe that this indoctrination is required for me to get my degree.

As a public policy student I have been exposed to so much bullshit about global warming that I have already basically written the final paper. So that is a positive, I just need to remeber that in this world Al Gore is Jesus.

What you need to remember is that man holds the key to your getting out of there.

Like it or not, it's never a good policy to piss off a cop, or shit on the professor in a required course.

I don't try to shit on him but I don't understand how this is supposed to be a policy class yet he is advocating vigilantism and openly breaking the law.

Record all the stupid shit he says. After you graduate make a website/blog with the professor's full name and the school and put all the quotes up on a blog format. I've had some professors who were racist towards whites and they said some crazy shit. I always wanted to document it and put on the net, but never got around to it and I'm a little upset I didn't.

I have already complained to my department that it is bullshit that I have to take the class and the fact that environmentalists run my department is the reason I will not be doing my masters here.

This advice might not lead to a great grade, but if you're going to have fun, why not engage him and take it one step further?

When he suggests the fisherman should be killed, you should one up him and suggest the ELF should kill all the family members of the fisherman that profited off those fish as well.

When he claims burning houses is a good idea, you should tell him the builders should be killed so they can't build any more houses. If he agrees with you, suggest the children of the builders should also be killed so they don't grow up and follow in their parents' footsteps.

Maybe we can even hang the heads of those killed on a bridge

I already told him that his line of thinking would lead to citizens shooting criminals in the street. He really didn't have an answer for that.

Don't waste your time then. Shut your mouth, agree with him on all papers and exams, and think about your future. Hopefully they grade the work anonymously.

You're playing with your graduation. He can easily justify failing you for "not getting it" and then you've got to prove he's a jackass to the people who are employing him and get them to overturn your grade.

Glad I don't have to put up with any of that. The worst I had was a vigilante Econ 101 prof. She was not only the dumbest doctorate I've met in my life, but she would do shit like give a 3 page test that was nothing more than:
are you a dem or republican?
do you believe that mercury emissions from power plants are a danger to fish?
do you support restrictions on hunting blah blah blah?
and other random shit that had nothing to do with anything except I guess to put names to political beliefs.

We have one staunch Paulite/libertarian in my Race, Gender, and Economics in American Society class, and I have to say I feel bad for him.
