According to the Labor Department there has been a 5.3 million increase in jobs since 2000. Household surveys show upwards of 8 million jobs created.
yeah but not "good" jobs

200% increase in gas?
In the summer of 2000, the average cost of gas was 1.68 per gallon. In order for it to increase 200% the average cost would now have to be over $5 a gallon. It isn't.
you're talking average...I'm sure they found a gas station in wichita in 2000 that sold gas for $1.21 and a station in california in 2008 that sells it for $5.00+

I don't know where they're getting their numbers from, but they're definitely using some funny math and trickery ...... They should have used more finite and provable numbers.
See first comment.

Really? $5.00+? I haven't seen that anywhere I've been in CA. It's hitting $4.00 right now, which sucks but that's what happens when the stock market keeps investing in Oil. It'll go down (most likely back to $2.50 to $3.00) if a Democrat takes office.

You missed the point of the comment.

I was talking about someone finding two extremes to sensationalize the numbers and make mccain look bad.

^A really good anti-McCain ad, he's an extremely bad choice for the country, but if (and I said IF!!!) I vote for Obama and he's elected, then we're off to Pakistan like he said to bomb them for "holding terrorists" which even if they may it means more war, I'm going to be superbly pissed off. War is not the answer, putting our soldiers on our borders from Canada, Mexico to the Pacific & Atlantic oceans to defend the country is our answers. Case closed. Other countries do not like our countries policies (though they use the words, "We Hate Americans!" they really are referring to our Governments politics.) and we need to get out of other countries affairs (Take Sweden's approach. Look it up on Wikipedia, they don't have conflicts of interest.) unless Congress who are 100% convinced that War is the only option. They've been abusing this privilege of controlling our military for over 100 years, it's time to be the Generation (Young to Old), when America finally rid themselves of bad politicians and bad policies. Vote Me in 2020! (I'll be 35 by then! WOO! :P)

The United States shouldn't be bombing other countries, period. Here is Mr. Obama on Pakistan... Talking about fight on the wrong battlefields on the right ones... NO MORE WAR! That would be the best platform ever.

he's talking about actions we've already done...it's not a war, it won't be a war

if OBL is in an area of pakistan that the pakistanis themselves can not get to...and we know that a surgical strike will not cause retaliation by the Pakistanis, why WOULDN'T we bomb that area of Pakistan?

whoever made that video is a jackass (assuming no one on this site made it) and knows nothing about foreign policy

If we leave Iraq, it will be a battle against Saddam-style Sunni Nationalists and Shia Nationalists (probably fighting their own intra-sectarian civil war) and the Kurds fighting the Turks...it will be a clusterfuck but there will be NO CHANCE of any terrorist organization intent on attacking US proper...of taking control

In Afghanistan, it is simple, you are either with the government out of Kabul, or you are with the Taliban/Al-Qaeda alliance...there is no other...the Taliban have made it clear they are allied with Al-Qaeda proper, the ones who attacked us on 9/11...not those Iraqis in Iraq who just want a name they think is cool

Well you and me will disagree to the high-heavens. But we need to stay out of everyone's problems for the next 5 years, focus on all the problems inside America our country. If we have all our troops at home protecting the borders, and if the CIA, FBI or President Administration isn't inept we won't have terrorist attacks. I'm sick of the United States Empire running around the middle east trying to discipline innocent people and only inciting terrorists and Anti-Americans against us. The more we interact in World Affairs, the more pissed off other countries will be at us and wanting to hurt our Government.

There's definite spin in that ad. There's a reason they had an announcer do the lead in and then start the McCain quote mid sentence despite it sounding rushed and overly edited. If you heard the entire speech or read the entire transcript of what he was saying you'll see how they're spinning.

He was saying he doesn't know how long we'll have troops in Iraq like we still have troops in Korea, Germany, etc. He didn't imply that he would continue this war for 100 years as the ad implied.

The Democratic candidates have been taking this out of context for some time now and the media has allowed them to get away with it.

Here's Factcheck.org's take on the DNC ad against McCain.
FactCheck.org: DNC vs. McCain
One ad shows selected portions of McCain's comments that a 100-year U.S. presence in Iraq would be "fine with me." The ad uses dramatic images of war and violence, and omits any mention that McCain was speaking of a peaceful presence like that in Japan or Korea.
An earlier ad attacks McCain for saying the nation's economy is "prosperous" and "better off overall" than eight years ago. The ad uses a couple of incorrect statistics to argue otherwise. It says the country has lost 1.8 million jobs when, in fact, it has gained nearly 5.4 million, and it says gasoline prices have risen 200 percent, when the actual figure is 139 percent.
Basically what I was saying earlier.

There's nothing really inaccurate about that advertisement by the DNC...

Does it chop up his sentence a bit? Sure, but it also accurately describes his position on our presence in Iraq..

He has no plan to remove troops until the job is "done" and we "win" militarily, which is impossible by all accounts, only a political solution can solve things, and he is against timetables, etc..

Until he issues a statement saying how long is too long, we can assume from his lack of withdrawal plan, that 100 years is fine if there's still a need for us to be there.

It makes insinuations that he did not make. He specifically said so long as Americans aren't being injured, wounded, harmed or killed and brought up Korea/Japan as a comparison. The DNC completely misrepresented what he said with their war imagery and overtone.

It doesn't matter though, as he's refused to say how long is too long, is against timetables, and is all for keeping American troops there as long as it takes to "win"

There's no difference in his ACTUAL position and the snippet of his comment, except maybe he'd actually be willing to keep them there longer than 100 years if that's what it takes to "win"

Funny... All of the above is what is happening now in Iraq to our troops. So we should withdrawal right now if that is what McCain "truly meant" by saying 100 years.

I don't know how anyone can defend or justify the War right now. People are needlessly dying. This is for the middle east to figure out. Spend that $572 Billion of defense on protecting our borders and we won't be attacked again, plus immigration would be solved to boot!

He didn't say that either. The question was how long will he keep troops in Iraq and he said he didn't know. He said we have troops still in Japan and Korea. He went on to say as long as American troops aren't being injured we could be there for upwards of 100 years (figurative numb
