| So if addiction to nicotine is genetic..... is the government discriminating against me by not letting me smoke in public? And how come black people don't have to go be black 15 feet away from the door? Genetic link for lung cancer identified : Nature News
Are we someday going to live in a world where people with the "violence" gene are imprisoned before they commit any crime? Will people with the "thrill-seeker" gene be paying higher premiums on insurance even though they haven't been in an accident? Will people with this marker for lung cancer be forbidden from buying cigarettes by the government if we end up with a Universal system? It's going to interesting to see how far we will be allowed to discriminate based on genetics in the future. Is it ever ok to judge someone based on something they can't control like their genes? | ||||

| Alcohol, nicotine and violence based genes dont force you to do anything. You ultimately have a choice genetic or not you know right from wrong in the case of violence. You also know if you drink too much or smoke a lot that it will kill you. you can't punish people prior to them comitting a crime. You can't control your genes but you can control your actions. I know many people who were addicted to cigs and quit. You can make excuses like genetics all you want but ultimately the buck stops with you. The same can be said for alcoholism. I know many people who CHOOSE not to drink because their families have a history of alcoholism. Furthermore, I personally made a decision ot never smoke again after trying it once. Yeah the buzz was kinda cool, however, my family has a history of smokers and heavy smokers that can't seem to quit so I made a decision to not go down that road. Also 2 of my family members finally quit, but a couple more still smoke like a chimney | ||||
