Can the Democrat Party Survive the Clinton's?

The Good:

The first Two Term elected Democrat since Roosevelt.* Governed durring a good economy and no major Foreign Policy problems.

The Bad:

Lost the Congress in two years to Republicans and was forced to move his party to the center which angered the liberal base.

The Ugly:

Was a scandal magnet who could not keep his pants on. This did not help Al Gore when he lost what should have been an easy election in 2000.

Fast forward to 2008:

Calculating is what a Clinton does well, only the Coronation of the Queen is not proceeding as planned. The party has not been this divided since 1968 when an unpopular War President could not even run for office. A Republican near outcast by the name of Dick Nixon is elected twice in landslides!

The math does not work, but she won't let go? And the reason is that the math also says this is her shot and possibly her only shot? Far too many Democrats want to move the party into the future, not the Clinton past. This risk is great that more permanent damage will be done in the name of personal ambition. The current fight is proof!

The Media:

They want to celebrate Obama! Only they can't do that because enough Clinton loyalists exist to say that is "not fair" and that Obama also has certain risks. The media is not worried about being fair to John McCain because that will never happen anyway. The Queen is blocking the celebration of Obama!

The Polls:

Durring an unpopular war, a low rated President, and a troubled economy the Democrats poll near even with a Moderate Republican in general election numbers!

The Solution:

?

Well it is not my party, so it is not my problem!

But if I were you I would take down that Queen and do it fast!

The answer to the thread title question is yes. Republicans survived me in spite of all the obituaries.

The Future:

Chelsea?

* I would grant the argument that JFK would have been re-elected, but it did not happen for tragic reasons so it is not a historical fact.

I can't read the post, but the answer is yes and the question is silly, no matter how phrased

Even if Obama goes down in flames, the Democrats...even with low Obama/Clinton numbers...are set to pick up +20 in the house and +5 in the senate

How anyone can look at that as anything but a surging party is beyond me...we are growing in all states in all directions

The only "problem" Democrats face, is that they don't want to elect a black guy or a woman...to anyone who thinks im playing up sexism/racism...sit down for 5 minutes and ask yourself where this race would be if Mark Warner had won the nomination by now?

He'd win 300+ electoral votes with ease, and cruise to re-election...(In fact he could have picked up 400 w/o Arizona)

The GOP picked the best Republican they possibly could, and some polls still have him losing when it's an all flame-war with the Democratic Party

We picked two of the worst candidates for the electoral college, and it's amazing how well we are sitting...if we stablize and long down our blue states of PA/NJ/MI...which should be easier than it sounds...we only have to pick up Ohio OR Colorado OR Nevada and we win

The Democrat party cannot survive Clinton or Obama. With a Democrat controlled congress, there will be no restraints on the Democrat party, and they will go crazy spending, just like the Republicans did when congress was controlled by the Republicans with Bush in the whitehouse.

I do not think that the question should be if the Democratic party can survive the Clintons. But rather, can the Democratic party survive the Democratic party?

Yeah we did a terrible job with Truman, JFK...and the unpolarity of other democrats like LBJ, Carter, early Clinton, had to do with issues outside normal politics: expanding in Vietnam, personal mishandling of a foreign crisis, and dealing with gays in the military

All 5 had Democratic Congresses, they didn't "go crazy"

The Democrats have proposed basically every liberal measures on their plate except a full UHC package because it will take a long time to plan out...I'm curious if McCain and Bush (and Pelosi) all died at once, and Sen. Byrd was President...what exactly would he sign that would be so outrageous?

I suspect if it becomes clear in October that Democrats will hold both houses of the Congress in 2008 it will actually help McCain. The Centrists will want that type of counter balance in order to keep the Congress from going far left on a number of issues.

That is a larger and more important question to be sure. I don't have an answer. I think the party has created a very difficult PC situation which they thought would be a great advantage and it is not. When was the last time you heard somebody say "Dream Ticket?"

Not gonna happen!
