Would you guys be interested in doing a book club?

We have a pole, pick a book and then in 3-4 weeks we discuss it. I assume political books would be the favorites.

Any ideas?

I'd be interested if it wasn't book after book espousing the same ideology or line of thinking

I'd like to see some stuff in there about the middle east and islam considering their relevancy in so many topics these days, as well as outside perspectives on the US and our foreign policy, so people can broaden their horizons a bit

I like history as much as the next person, but I don't think all books should be limited to that genre

We could set up something using the front page to maybe attract others interested in participating as well

Last time we read ONE book. And there was one suggested about Islam that I was looking forward to us getting to, but it just died.

No God But God by Reza Aslan is one I'd suggest. He writes well and has been on the Daily Show a few times if I remember correctly

I don't recall any political books suggested last time. Oh, I may have suggested Road to Serfdom, but I also suggested an easy-to-read economics book by Henry Hazlitt.

The one we read was Founding Brothers which was really quite good. I enjoyed it a lot, gave me new perspective on various aspects of that era (especially John Adams, the poor SOB).

I read to escape the horrors of reality.

I don't think I could get through a political book unless there were a zombie Washington shooting a laser gun at a werewolf Reagan or something.

I think we should expand beyond just political/economic/historical nonfiction if we do this again. There are plenty of fiction novels that have some underlying politically relevant themes without bashing you over the head with politics.
