| I love the portrayal of Hamilton in that John Adams series. Sneaky and conniving son of bitch.

| Hamilton was far from conniving, he was simply excellent at working behind the scenes. | ||||

| What did Adams mean when he said that Hamilton "intrigued" him in the first election? I know that Washington had a unanimous popular vote, but got only 60-something electoral votes while Adams had 30-something. Does Adams mean that Hamilton is the electoral voter that was pushing for him in the first election or something? How would anyone know that, or is that just Hollyweird drama? | ||||

| I think he meant he was the one going around behind the scenes working against him, encouraging people to hold their votes and vote for Washington so he wasn't embarrassed by a very close race? | ||||

Also, why did the electoral college deviate so much from the popular vote in the first place? Was Washington unpopular amongst the elite? As far as I know, everyone loved the guy. | ||||

He wanted nothing less than complete dominance for Washington in the first election.

| Well that explains why Washington sided with Hamilton in regards to the Jay Treaty. | ||||

| On the same note as the thread title though, I also like how the series portrays Jefferson as becoming increasingly radical and dangerous. I'm an episode behind because I'm watching them with a friend that has HBO after the fact, but in part 4 when they were sitting in the garden in Paris... | ||||

| I know that the book the series is based on is written mostly from the perspective of Adams, and Adams had a deep personal hatred of Hamilton, so I've been absolutely expecting him to be treated poorly in the series. I would expect nothing less. | ||||

| Yeah, he's not portrayed as someone you're supposed to like / identify with in the latest episode. | ||||

| If Adams hated Hamilton so much, then why did Adams join Hamilton's Federalist Party? Wouldn't it have made more sense for Adams to run on a platform that advocated Washington's anti-party position? I'm not sure about its accuracy, but the show depicts Adams as being anti-parties anyway. Why did he join one? And why was it Hamilton's if that was his enemy? | ||||

| wat? Jefferson and Hamilton almost got into fisticuffs over that. Hamilton was most certainly mercantilistic. The whole reason he pushed for a bank to support his mercantilistic agenda. Last edited by Dumpy Dooby; 04-10-2008 at 01:44 PM. | ||||

| I don't have any Movie Channels so I will probably end up waiting for the DVD. I am just starting the Tudors. A mixture of soft porn and good drama!
