Robert A. Taft, the son of former President William H. Taft, was first elected to the Senate in 1938 and served until his death in 1953. He briefly served in the Senate alongside a relative, Kingley Taft, who won a 1946 special election to fill the remainder of Harold Burton's term after Burton was appointed to the Supreme Court. Finally, Robert A. Taft's son, Robert Taft Jr., was elected to the Senate in 1970, but served only one term.
